1 Chronicles 24
Chapter 24
The Divisions of the Priests
1 The divisions of the descendants of Aaron were as follows: Aaron's sons were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.(a) 2 But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and they had no sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests.(b) 3 Together with Zadok(c) from the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech from the sons of Ithamar, David divided them according to the assigned duties of their service. 4 Since more leaders were found among Eleazar's descendants than Ithamar's, they were divided accordingly: 16 heads of ancestral houses were from Eleazar's descendants, and eight heads of ancestral houses were from Ithamar's. 5 They(d) were assigned by lot, for there were officers of the sanctuary and officers of God among both Eleazar's and Ithamar's descendants.
6 The secretary, Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a Levite, recorded them in the presence of the king and the officers, Zadok the priest, Ahimelech(e) son of Abiathar, and the heads of families of the priests and the Levites. One ancestral house was taken for Eleazar, and then one for Ithamar.
7 The first lot fell to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah,
8 the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim,
9 the fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin,
10 the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah,(f)
11 the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shecaniah,
12 the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim,
13 the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab,
14 the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer,
15 the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Happizzez,
16 the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezkel,
17 the twenty-first to Jachin, the twenty-second to Gamul,
18 the twenty-third to Delaiah, and the twenty-fourth to Maaziah.
19 These had their assigned duties for service when they entered the Lord 's temple, according to their regulations, which they received from their ancestor Aaron, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded him.
The Rest of the Levites
20 As for the rest of Levi's sons:
from Amram's sons: Shubael;
from Shubael's sons: Jehdeiah.
21 From Rehabiah:
from Rehabiah's sons: Isshiah was the first.
22 From the Izharites: Shelomoth;
from Shelomoth's sons: Jahath.
23 Hebron's[a](g) sons:
Jeriah the first, Amariah the second,
Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
24 From Uzziel's sons: Micah;
from Micah's sons: Shamir.
25 Micah's brother: Isshiah;
from Isshiah's sons: Zechariah.
26 Merari's sons: Mahli and Mushi,
and from his sons, Jaaziah his son.[b]
27 Merari's sons, by his son Jaaziah:[c]
Shoham, Zaccur, and Ibri.
28 From Mahli: Eleazar, who had no sons.
29 From Kish, from Kish's sons: Jerahmeel.
30 Mushi's sons: Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth.
Those were the sons of the Levites according to their ancestral houses. 31 They also cast lots the same way as their relatives the sons of Aaron did in the presence of King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of the families of the priests and Levites—the family heads and their younger brothers alike.(h)

Chapter 10
The Lord Restores His People
1 Ask the
Lord
for rain
in the season of spring rain.
The
Lord
makes the rain clouds,
and He will give them showers of rain
and crops in the field for everyone.(a)
2 For the idols speak falsehood,
and the diviners(b) see illusions;
they relate empty dreams
and offer empty comfort.
Therefore the people wander like sheep;
they suffer affliction because there is no shepherd.
3 My anger burns against the shepherds,
so I will punish the leaders.[a]
For the
Lord
of Hosts has tended His flock,
the house of Judah;
He will make them like His majestic steed in battle.
4 The cornerstone(c) will come from Judah.[b]
The tent peg(d) will come from them
and also the battle bow(e) and every[c] ruler.
Together
5 they will be like warriors in battle
trampling down the mud of the streets.
They will fight because the
Lord
is with them,
and they will put horsemen to shame.
6 I will strengthen the house of Judah
and deliver the house of Joseph.[d]
I will restore[e] them
because I have compassion on them,
and they will be
as though I had never rejected them.(f)
For I am Yahweh their God,
and I will answer them.
7 Ephraim(g) will be like a warrior,
and their hearts will be glad as if with wine.
Their children will see it and be glad;(h)
their hearts will rejoice in Yahweh.
8 I will whistle(i) and gather them
because I have redeemed(j) them;
they will be as numerous as they once were.
9 Though I sow(k) them among the nations,
they will remember(l) Me in the distant lands;
they and their children will live and return.
10 I will bring them back from the land of Egypt
and gather them from Assyria.
I will bring them to the land of Gilead(m)
and to Lebanon,
but it will not be enough for them.
11 Yahweh[f] will pass through the sea of distress
and strike the waves of the sea;
all the depths of the Nile will dry up.(n)
The pride of Assyria will be brought down,
and the scepter of Egypt will come to an end.
12 I will strengthen(o) them in Yahweh,
and they will march(p) in His name—
this is Yahweh's declaration.
John 6:22-59
Chapter 6
22 The next day, the crowd that had stayed on the other side of the sea knew there had been only one boat.[e](u) They also knew that Jesus had not boarded the boat with His disciples, but that His disciples had gone off alone. 23 Some boats from Tiberias(v) came near the place where they ate the bread after the Lord gave thanks. 24 When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor His disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum looking for Jesus.
25 When they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, "Rabbi,(w) when did You get here?"
26 Jesus answered, "I assure you: You are looking for Me, not because you saw[f] the signs, but because you ate the loaves and were filled. 27 Don't work for the food that perishes(x) but for the food that lasts for eternal life,(y) which the Son of Man(z) will give you, because God the Father(aa) has set His seal of approval on Him."
28 "What can we do to perform the works of God?" they asked.
29 Jesus replied, "This is the work(ab) of God—that you believe in the One He has sent." (ac)
30 "What sign then are You going to do so we may see and believe You?" they asked. "What are You going to perform? 31 Our fathers ate the manna(ad) in the wilderness,(ae) just as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat. "[g](af)[h]
32 Jesus said to them, "I assure you: Moses(ag) didn't give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the real bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is the One who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."
34 Then they said, "Sir, give us this bread always!"
35 "I am(ah) the bread of life," Jesus told them. "No one who comes to Me(ai) will ever be hungry,(aj) and no one who believes in Me(ak) will ever be thirsty(al) again. 36 But as I told you, you've seen Me,[i] and yet you do not believe. 37 Everyone the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will never cast out.(am) 38 For I have come down from heaven,(an) not to do My will, but the will of Him(ao) who sent Me. 39 This is the will of Him who sent Me: that I should lose none of those He has given Me but should raise(ap) them up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of My Father:(aq) that everyone who sees the Son(ar) and believes in Him may have eternal life, and I will raise(as) him up on the last day."
41 Therefore the Jews started complaining about Him because He said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven." 42 They were saying, "Isn't this Jesus the son of Joseph,(at) whose father and mother we know? How can He now say, ‘I have come down from heaven' ?"
43 Jesus answered them, "Stop complaining among yourselves. 44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws[j] him, and I will raise him up on the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets:(au) And they will all be taught by God. (av)[k] Everyone who has listened to and learned from the Father(aw) comes to Me— 46 not that anyone has seen the Father(ax) except the One who is from God.(ay) He has seen the Father. (az)
47 "I assure you: Anyone who believes[l] has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna(ba) in the wilderness,(bb) and they died. 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that anyone may eat of it and not die.(bc) 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live(bd) forever.(be) The bread that I will give for the life(bf) of the world is My flesh." (bg)
52 At that, the Jews argued(bh) among themselves,(bi) "How can this man give us His flesh to eat?"
53 So Jesus said to them, "I assure you: Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man(bj) and drink His blood,(bk) you do not have life in yourselves. 54 Anyone who eats My flesh and drinks My blood(bl) has eternal life, and I will raise(bm) him up on the last day, 55 because My flesh is real food and My blood is real drink. 56 The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood lives in Me, and I in him.(bn) 57 Just as the living(bo) Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on Me will live(bp) because of Me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven; it is not like the manna[m] your fathers ate—and they died. The one who eats this bread will live forever." (bq)
59 He said these things while teaching in the synagogue(br) in Capernaum.(bs)
