1 Chronicles 9

Chapter 9

People of Jerusalem

1 So all Israel was enrolled in genealogies; and behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. And (C1)Judah was taken into exile to Babylon for their infidelity.

2 (C1)Now the first inhabitants who lived on their own property in their cities were people of Israel, including the priests, the Levites, and (C2)the (F1)temple servants.3 Some of the sons of Judah, some of the sons of Benjamin, and some of the sons of Ephraim and Manasseh lived in (C1)Jerusalem:4 Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, from the sons of Perez the (C1)son of Judah.5 From the Shilonites were Asaiah the firstborn and his sons.6 From the sons of Zerah were Jeuel and their relatives, 690 of them.7 From the sons of Benjamin were Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah,8 and Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, and Elah the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah;9 and their relatives according to their generations, (C1)956. All these men were heads of fathers' households according to their fathers' houses.

10 (C1)From the priests were Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin,11 and (F1)Azariah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, (C1)the chief officer of the house of God;12 and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer;13 and their relatives, heads of their fathers' households, 1,760 competent men for the work of the service of the house of God.

14 (C1)Of the Levites, there were Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari;15 and Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal; and Mattaniah the son of Mica, the son of (F1)Zichri, the son of Asaph,16 and (F1)Obadiah the son of (F2)Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun; and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived in the settlements of the Netophathites.

17 Now the gatekeepers were (F1)Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their relatives (Shallum the chief18 being stationed until now at (C1)the king's gate to the east). These were the gatekeepers for the camp of the sons of Levi.19 Shallum the son of Kore, the son of (F1)Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his relatives of his father's house, the Korahites, were in charge of the work of the service, doorkeepers of the tent; and their fathers had been in charge of the camp of the LORD, keepers of the entrance.20 (C1)Phinehas the son of Eleazar was supervisor over them previously, and the LORD was with him.21 (C1)Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper of the entrance of the tent of meeting.22 Those who were chosen to be gatekeepers at the thresholds were 212 in all. They were registered by genealogy in their settlements, (C1)those whom David and Samuel the seer appointed (C2)in their official capacity.23 So they and their sons were in charge of the gates of the house of the LORD, the house of the tent, in their divisions of service.24 The gatekeepers were (F1)on the four sides, to the east, west, north, and south.25 Their relatives in their settlements (C1)were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with (F1)them;26 for the four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, served in an official capacity, and were in charge of the chambers and in charge of the treasuries in the house of God.27 They spent the night around the house of God, (C1)because the watch was (F1)committed to them; and they were in charge of opening it morning by morning.

28 Now some of them were in charge of the utensils of the service, for (F1)they counted them when they brought them in and when they took them out.29 Some of them also were appointed over the furniture and over all the utensils of the sanctuary, and (C1)over the finely milled flour, the wine, the olive oil, the frankincense, and the balsam oil.30 Some of (C1)the sons of the priests prepared the mixing of the balsam oil.31 Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had (C1)the (F1)responsibility for the baking of cakes in pans.32 Some of their relatives of the sons of the Kohathites (C1)were in charge of the showbread to prepare it every Sabbath.

33 Now these are (C1)the singers, heads of fathers' households of the Levites, who lived in the chambers of the temple free of other duties; for they were (F1)engaged (C2)in their work day and night.34 These were heads of fathers' households of the Levites according to their generations, chief men (F1)who lived in Jerusalem.

Ancestry and Descendants of Saul

35 (C1)Jeiel the father of Gibeon lived in Gibeon, and his wife's name was Maacah,36 and his firstborn son was Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth.38 Mikloth fathered Shimeam. And they also lived with their relatives in Jerusalem opposite their other relatives.39 (C1)Ner fathered Kish, Kish fathered Saul, and Saul fathered Jonathan, Malchi-shua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal.40 The son of Jonathan was (F1)Merib-baal; and Merib-baal fathered Micah.41 The sons of Micah were Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, (C1)and Ahaz.42 Ahaz fathered Jarah, Jarah fathered Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri fathered Moza.43 Moza fathered Binea, and Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.44 Azel had six sons whose names were these: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.

Haggai 1-2

Chapter 1

Haggai Begins Temple Building

1 In the (C1)second year of Darius the king, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the LORD came by the prophet (C2)Haggai to (C3)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, (C4)governor of Judah, and to (C5)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,2 "This is what the LORD of armies (F1)says: 'This people says, "The time has not come, the time for the house of the LORD to be rebuilt."'"3 Then the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet, saying,4 "Is it time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses while this house remains (C1)desolate?"5 Now then, the LORD of armies says this: "(F1)Consider your ways!6 "You have (C1)sown much, only to (F1)harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but there is not enough for (F2)anyone to get warm; and the one who earns, earns wages to put into a money bag full of holes."

7 The LORD of armies says this: "(F1)Consider your ways!8 "Go up to the (F1)mountains, bring wood, and (C1)rebuild the (F2)temple, that I may be (C2)pleased with it and be (C3)honored," says the LORD.9 "(C1)You (F1)start an ambitious project, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home, I (C2)blow it away. Why?" declares the LORD of armies. "It is because of My house which (C3)remains desolate, while each of you runs to his own house.10 "Therefore, because of you the (C1)sky has withheld (F1)its dew, and the earth has withheld its produce.11 "And I called for a (C1)drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on what the ground produces, on (C2)mankind, on cattle, and on (C3)all the products of the labor of (F1)your hands."

12 Then (C1)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and (C2)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, (C3)obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the words of Haggai the prophet, just as the LORD their God had sent him. And the people (F1)(C4)showed reverence for the LORD.13 Then Haggai, the (C1)messenger of the LORD, spoke (F1)by the commission of the LORD to the people, saying, "'(C2)I am with you,' declares the LORD."14 So the LORD stirred up the spirit of (C1)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, (C1)governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the (C2)remnant of the people; and they came and (C3)worked on the house of the LORD of armies, their God,15 on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month in the second year of Darius the king.

Chapter 2

The Builders Encouraged

1 On the twenty-first of the seventh month, the word of the LORD came by (C1)Haggai the prophet, saying,2 "Speak now to (C1)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, (C1)governor of Judah, and to (C1)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the (C2)remnant of the people, saying,3 'Who is (C1)left among you who saw this (F1)temple in its (C2)former glory? And how do you see it now? (F2)Does it not seem to you like nothing (F3)in comparison?4 'But now (F1)(C1)take courage, Zerubbabel,' declares the LORD, 'take courage also, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all you people of the land take courage,' declares the LORD, 'and work; for (C2)I am with you,' declares the LORD of armies.5 'As for the (F1)(C1)promise which I (F2)made you when you came out of Egypt, (F3)My (C2)Spirit remains in your midst; (C3)do not fear!'6 "For this is what the LORD of armies says: '(C1)Once more (F1)in a (C2)little while, I am going to (C3)shake the heavens and the earth, the sea also and the dry land.7 'I will shake (C1)all the nations; and (F1)they will come with the (C2)wealth of all nations, and I will (C3)fill this house with glory,' says the LORD of armies.8 'The (C1)silver is Mine and the gold is Mine,' declares the LORD of armies.9 'The latter (C1)glory of this house will be greater than the (C2)former,' says the LORD of armies, 'and in this place I will give (C3)peace,' declares the LORD of armies."

10 On the (C1)twenty-fourth of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Haggai the prophet, saying,11 "The LORD of armies says this: '(C1)Now ask the priests for a (F1)ruling:12 'If someone carries (C1)holy meat in the (F1)fold of his garment, and touches bread with (F2)this fold, or touches cooked food, wine, oil, or any other food, will it become holy?'" And the priests answered, "No."13 Then Haggai said, "(C1)If one who is unclean from a (F1)corpse touches any of these things, will the latter become unclean?" And the priests answered, "It will become unclean."14 Then Haggai responded and said, "'(C1)So is this people. And so is this nation before Me,' declares the LORD, 'and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.15 'But now, do (F1)(C1)consider from this day (F2)onward: before one (C2)stone was placed on another in the temple of the LORD,16 (F1)from that time when one came to a grain heap of twenty measures, there would be only ten; and when one came to the wine vat to draw fifty (F2)measures, there would be only twenty.17 'I struck you and every work of your hands with (C1)scorching wind, mildew, and hail; (F1)yet you did not come back to Me,' declares the LORD.18 'Do (F1)(C1)consider from this day (F2)onward, from the (C2)twenty-fourth day of the ninth month; from the day when the temple of the LORD was (C3)founded, (F1)consider:19 'Is the seed still in the barn? Even including the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree, it has not produced fruit. Yet from this day on I will (C1)bless you.'"

20 Then the word of the LORD came a second time to Haggai on the (C1)twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,21 "Speak to (C1)Zerubbabel governor of Judah, saying, 'I am going to (C2)shake the heavens and the earth.22 'And I will (C1)overthrow the thrones of kingdoms and destroy the (C2)power of the kingdoms of the (F1)nations; and I will (C3)overthrow the chariots and their riders, and the (C4)horses and their riders will go down, (C5)every one by the sword of another.'23 'On that day,' declares the LORD of armies, 'I will take you, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, My servant,' declares the LORD, 'and I will make you like a (F1)(C1)signet ring, for (C2)I have chosen you,'" declares the LORD of armies.

John 1:35-51

Chapter 1

35 Again (C1)the next day John was standing (F1)with two of his disciples,36 and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and (*)said, "Behold, (C1)the Lamb of God!"37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.38 And Jesus turned and saw them following, and (*)said to them, "What are you seeking?" They said to Him, "(C1)Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?"39 He (*)said to them, "Come, and you will see." So they came and saw where He was staying, and they stayed with Him that day; it was about the (F1)tenth hour.40 (C1)One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.41 He first (*)found his own brother Simon and (*)said to him, "We have found the (C1)Messiah" (which translated means (F1)Christ).42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon the son of (F1)(C1)John; you shall be called (C2)Cephas" (which is translated (F2)(C3)Peter).

43 (C1)The next day He (F1)decided to go to (C2)Galilee, and He (*)found (C3)Philip. And Jesus (*)said to him, "(C4)Follow Me."44 Now (C1)Philip was from (C2)Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.45 (C1)Philip (*)found (C2)Nathanael and (*)said to him, "We have found Him of whom (C3)Moses wrote in the Law, and (C3)the prophets also wrote: Jesus (C4)the son of Joseph, from (C5)Nazareth!"46 Nathanael said to him, "(C1)Can anything good be from Nazareth?" (C2)Philip (*)said to him, "Come and see."47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and (*)said of him, "Here is truly an (C1)Israelite, in whom there is no deceit!"48 Nathanael (*)said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before (C1)Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."49 Nathanael answered Him, "(C1)Rabbi, You are (C2)the Son of God; You are the (C3)King of Israel!"50 Jesus answered and said to him, "Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these."51 And He (*)said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see (C1)heaven opened and (C2)the angels of God ascending and descending on (C3)the Son of Man."
