3 (C1)The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah; these three were born to him by Bath-shua the Canaanitess. But Er, Judah's firstborn, was evil in the sight of the LORD, so He put him to death.4 (C1)His daughter-in-law Tamar bore him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.

5 The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.6 The sons of Zerah were (F1)Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and (F2)Dara; five of them in all.7 The (F1)son of Carmi was (F2)(C1)Achar, the one who brought disaster on Israel (F3)by violating the (F4)ban.8 The (F1)son of Ethan was Azariah.

Genealogy of David

9 Now the sons of Hezron who were born to him were Jerahmeel, Ram, and Chelubai.10 Ram fathered Amminadab, and Amminadab fathered Nahshon, leader of the sons of Judah;11 Nahshon fathered Salma, Salma fathered Boaz,12 Boaz fathered Obed, and Obed fathered Jesse;13 and Jesse fathered Eliab his firstborn, then Abinadab, the second, (F1)Shimea, the third,14 Nethanel, the fourth, Raddai, the fifth,15 Ozem, the sixth, and David, the seventh.16 Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. And the three sons of Zeruiah were (F1)Abshai, Joab, and Asahel.17 Abigail gave birth to Amasa, and the father of Amasa was (F1)Jether the Ishmaelite.

18 Now Caleb the son of Hezron had sons by Azubah his wife, and by Jerioth; and these were her sons: Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon.19 When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath, who bore to him Hur.20 Hur fathered Uri, and Uri fathered Bezalel.

21 Later, Hezron had relations with the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead, whom he married when he was sixty years old; and she bore to him Segub.22 Segub fathered Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead.23 But Geshur and Aram took (F1)the villages of Jair from them, with Kenath and its villages, sixty settlements. All of these were the sons of Machir, the father of Gilead.24 After the death of Hezron in Caleb-ephrathah, Abijah, Hezron's wife, bore to him Ashhur the father of Tekoa.

These were the (F1)descendants of Jerahmeel.34 Now Sheshan had no sons, only daughters. Sheshan also had an Egyptian servant, whose name was Jarha.35 Sheshan gave his daughter to his servant Jarha in marriage, and she bore to him Attai.36 Attai fathered Nathan, Nathan fathered Zabad,37 Zabad fathered Ephlal, Ephlal fathered Obed,38 Obed fathered Jehu, Jehu fathered Azariah,39 Azariah fathered Helez, Helez fathered Eleasah,40 Eleasah fathered Sismai, Sismai fathered Shallum,41 Shallum fathered Jekamiah, and Jekamiah fathered Elishama.

The (F1)sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah, were Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim,51 Salma the father of Bethlehem, and Hareph the father of Beth-gader.52 Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim had sons: Haroeh, half of the Manahathites,53 and the families of Kiriath-jearim: the Ithrites, the Puthites, the Shumathites, and the Mishraites; from these came the Zorathites and the Eshtaolites.54 The sons of Salma were Bethlehem and the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab, and half of the Manahathites, the Zorites.55 The families of scribes who lived at Jabez were the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and the Sucathites. Those are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab.

Habakkuk 3

Chapter 3

God's People Saved

1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to (F1)Shigionoth.

2 LORD, I have (C1)heard (F1)the report about You, and (F2)I was (C2)afraid.
LORD, (C3)revive (C4)Your work in the midst of the years,
In the midst of the years make it known.
In anger remember (F3)(C5)mercy.

3 God comes from (C1)Teman,
And the Holy One from Mount (C2)Paran. Selah
His (C3)splendor covers the heavens,
And the (C4)earth is full of His praise.

4 His (C1)radiance is like the sunlight;
He has rays flashing from His hand,
And the hiding of His (C2)might is there.

5 Before Him goes (C1)plague,
And (C2)plague comes forth (F1)after Him.

6 He stood and caused the earth to shudder;
He looked and (C1)caused the nations to jump.
Yes, the everlasting mountains were shattered,
The ancient hills (F1)collapsed.
His paths are (C2)everlasting.

7 I saw the tents of Cushan under (C1)distress,
The tent curtains of the land of (C2)Midian were trembling.

8 Did the LORD rage against the (C1)rivers,
Or was Your anger against the rivers,
Or was Your rage against the (C2)sea,
That You (C3)rode on Your horses,
On Your (C4)chariots of salvation?

9 You removed Your (C1)bow from its holder,
The arrows of Your word were (F1)sworn. Selah
You (C2)divided the earth with rivers.

10 The mountains saw You and quaked;
The downpour of waters swept by.
The deep (C1)raised its voice,
It lifted high its hands.

11 (C1)Sun and moon stood in their lofty places;
They went away at the (C2)light of Your arrows,
At the radiance of Your flashing spear.

12 In indignation You (C1)marched through the earth;
In anger You (F1)(C2)trampled the nations.

13 You went forth for the (C1)salvation of Your people,
For the salvation of Your (C2)anointed.
You smashed the (C3)head of the house of evil
To uncover him from (F1)foot to neck. Selah

14 You pierced with his (C1)own (F1)arrows
The head of his (F2)leaders.
They (C2)stormed in to scatter (F3)us;
Their arrogance was like those
Who (C3)devour the oppressed in secret.

15 You (C1)trampled on the sea with Your horses,
On the (C2)foam of many waters.

16 I heard, and my (F1)inner parts (C1)trembled;
At the sound, my lips quivered.
Decay enters my (C2)bones,
And in my place I tremble;
Because I (F2)must (C3)wait quietly for the day of distress,
(F3)For the (C4)people to arise who will attack us.

17 Even if the (C1)fig tree does not blossom,
And there is no (F1)fruit on the vines,
If the yield of the (C2)olive fails,
And the fields produce no food,
Even if the (C3)flock disappears from the fold,
And there are (C4)no cattle in the stalls,

18 Yet I will (C1)triumph in the LORD,
I will (C2)rejoice in the (C3)God of my salvation.

19 The Lord (F1)GOD is my (C1)strength,
And (C2)He has made my feet like deer's feet,
And has me walk on my (C3)high places.
For the choir director, on my stringed instruments.

2 Corinthians 12

Chapter 12

Paul's Vision

1 (C1)Boasting is necessary, though it is not beneficial; but I will go on to visions and (C2)revelations (F1)of the Lord.2 I know a man (C1)in Christ, who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, (C2)God knows—such a man was (C3)caught up to the (C4)third heaven.3 And I know how such a man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, (C1)God knows—4 was (C1)caught up into (C2)Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which a man is not permitted to speak.5 (C1)In behalf of such a man I will boast; but in my own behalf I will not boast, except regarding my (C2)weaknesses.6 For if I do wish to boast I will not be (C1)foolish, (C2)for I will be speaking the truth; but I refrain from this, so that no one will credit me with more than he sees in me or hears from me.

A Thorn in the Flesh

7 Because of the extraordinary greatness of the (C1)revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given to me a (C2)thorn in the flesh, a (C3)messenger of Satan to (F1)torment me—to keep me from exalting myself!8 Concerning this I pleaded with the Lord (C1)three times that it might leave me.9 And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for (C1)power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather (C2)boast (F1)about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.10 Therefore (C1)I delight in weaknesses, in (F1)insults, in (C2)distresses, in (C3)persecutions, in (C2)difficulties, (C4)in behalf of Christ; for (C5)when I am weak, then I am strong.

11 I have become (C1)foolish; you yourselves compelled me. Actually I should have been commended by you, since I was (C2)in no respect inferior to the (F1)most eminent apostles, even though (C3)I am a nobody.12 The (C1)distinguishing marks (F1)of a true apostle were performed among you with all perseverance, by (F2)signs, wonders, and (F3)miracles.13 For in what respect were you treated as inferior to the rest of the churches, except that (C1)I myself did not become a burden to you? Forgive me (C2)this wrong!

14 Here (C1)for this third time I am ready to come to you, and I (C2)will not be a burden to you; for I (C3)do not seek what is yours, but (C4)you; for (C5)children are not responsible to save up for their parents, but (C6)parents for their children.15 I will (C1)most gladly spend and be expended for your souls. If (C2)I love you more, am I to be loved less?16 But be that as it may, I (C1)did not burden you myself; nevertheless, devious person that I am, I (C2)took you in by deceit.17 (C1)Certainly I have not taken advantage of you through any of those whom I have sent to you, have I?18 I (C1)urged (C2)Titus to go, and I sent (C3)the brother with him. Titus did not take any advantage of you, did he? Did we not (F1)conduct ourselves (F2)in the same (C4)spirit and walk (C5)in the same steps?

19 All this time (F1)you have been thinking that we are defending ourselves to you. Actually, (C1)it is in the sight of God that we have been speaking in Christ; and (C2)all for building you up, (C3)beloved.20 For I am afraid that perhaps (C1)when I come I may find you to be not what I wish, and may be found by you to be not what you wish; that perhaps there will be (C2)strife, jealousy, (C3)angry tempers, (C4)selfishness, (C5)slanders, (C6)gossip, (C7)arrogance, (C8)disturbances;21 I am afraid that when I come again my God may humiliate me before you, and I may mourn over many of those who have (C1)sinned in the past and not repented of the (C2)impurity, sexual immorality, and indecent behavior which they have practiced.
