Chapter 20
Hezekiah's Illness and Recovery
1 (C1)In those days Hezekiah became (F1)mortally ill. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him and said to him, "This is what the LORD says: '(C2)Set your house in order, for you are going to die and not live.'"2 Then he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, saying,3 "Please, LORD, just (C1)remember (C2)how I have walked before You wholeheartedly and in truth, and have done what is good in Your sight!" And (C3)Hezekiah wept (F1)profusely.4 And even before Isaiah had left the middle courtyard, the word of the LORD came to him, saying,5 "Return and say to (C1)Hezekiah the leader of My people, 'This is what the LORD, the God of your father David says: "(C2)I have heard your prayer, (C3)I have seen your tears; behold, I am going to heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD.6 "And I will add fifteen years to your (F1)life, and I will save you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and (C1)I will protect this city for My own sake and for My servant David's sake."'"7 Then Isaiah said, "Take a cake of figs." And they took it and placed it on the inflamed spot, and he recovered.
8 Now Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "What will be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I will go up to the house of the LORD on the third day?"9 Isaiah said, "(C1)This shall be the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will perform the word that He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps or go back ten steps?"10 So Hezekiah said, "It is easy for the shadow to decline ten steps; no, but have the shadow turn backward ten steps."11 Then Isaiah the prophet called out to the LORD, and (C1)He brought the shadow on the (F1)stairway back ten steps by which it had gone down on the (F1)stairway of Ahaz.
Hezekiah Shows Babylon His Treasures
12 (C1)At that time (F1)Berodach-baladan, a son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, because he heard that Hezekiah had been sick.13 And Hezekiah listened to (F1)them, and showed them (C1)all his treasure house, the silver, the gold, the balsam oil, the (F2)scented oil, the house of his armor, and everything that was found in his treasuries. There was nothing in his house nor in all his realm that Hezekiah did not show them.14 Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and said to him, "What did these men say, and from where have they come to you?" And Hezekiah said, "They have come from a far country, from Babylon."15 Isaiah said, "What have they seen in your house?" So Hezekiah (F1)answered, "They have seen everything that is in my house; there is nothing among my treasuries that I have not shown them."
16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Hear the word of the LORD:17 'Behold, the days are coming when (C1)everything that is in your house, and what your fathers have stored up to this day, will be carried to Babylon; nothing will be left,' says the LORD.18 'And some (C1)of your sons who will come from you, whom you will father, will be taken away; and they will become (C2)officials in the palace of the king of Babylon.'"19 Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The word of the LORD which you have spoken is (C1)good." For he (F1)thought, "Is it not good, if there will be peace and (F2)security in my days?"
20 (C1)Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and all his might, and how he (C2)constructed the pool and the conduit and brought water into the city, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?21 (C1)So Hezekiah (F1)lay down with his fathers, and his son Manasseh became king in his place.
Chapter 21
Manasseh Succeeds Hezekiah
1 (C1)Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned for fifty-five years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Hephzibah.2 (C1)He did evil in the sight of the LORD, (C2)in accordance with the abominations of the nations whom the LORD (F1)dispossessed before the sons of Israel.3 For (C1)he rebuilt the high places which his father Hezekiah had destroyed; and (C2)he erected altars for Baal and made an (F1)Asherah, just as Ahab king of Israel had done, and he (C3)worshiped all the heavenly (F2)lights and served them.4 And (C1)he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "(C2)In Jerusalem I will put My name."5 He built altars for (C1)all the heavenly (F1)lights in (C2)the two courtyards of the house of the LORD.6 And (C1)he made his son pass through the fire, (C2)interpreted signs, practiced divination, and used mediums and spiritists. He did great evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking Him to anger.7 Then (C1)he put the carved image of Asherah that he had made in the house of which the LORD had said to David and to his son Solomon, "(C2)In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen from all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever.8 "And I (C1)will not make the feet of Israel wander anymore from the land which I gave their fathers, if only they will take care to act in accordance with everything that I have commanded them, and with all the Law that My servant Moses commanded them."9 But they did not listen, and Manasseh (C1)encouraged them to do evil, more than the nations whom the LORD eliminated from the presence of the sons of Israel.
The King's Idolatries Rebuked
10 Now the LORD spoke through His servants the prophets, saying,11 "(C1)Since Manasseh king of Judah has committed these abominations, (C2)having done more evil than all that the Amorites did who were before him, and (C3)has also misled Judah into sin (C4)with his idols,12 therefore this is what the LORD, the God of Israel says: 'Behold, I am bringing such a disaster on Jerusalem and Judah that whoever hears about it, (C1)both of his ears will ring.13 '(C1)I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria and the plummet of the house of Ahab, and I will wipe Jerusalem clean just as one wipes a bowl, wiping it and turning it upside down.14 'And I will abandon the remnant of My inheritance and hand them over to their enemies, and they will become as plunder and spoils to all their enemies,15 because they have done evil in My sight, and have been provoking Me to anger since the day their fathers came from Egypt, even to this day.'"
16 (C1)Furthermore, Manasseh shed very much innocent blood until he had filled Jerusalem (F1)from one end to another, besides his sin (C2)into which he misled Judah, in doing evil in the sight of the LORD.17 (C1)Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh and all that he did, and his sin which he (F1)committed, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?18 (C1)And Manasseh (F1)lay down with his fathers and was buried in the garden of his own house, (C2)in the garden of Uzza, and his son Amon became king in his place.
Amon Succeeds Manasseh
19 (C1)Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned for two years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Meshullemeth the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah.20 He did evil in the sight of the LORD, (C1)just as his father Manasseh had done.21 For he walked (F1)entirely in the way that his father had walked, and served the idols that his father had served, and worshiped them.22 So (C1)he abandoned the LORD, the God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the LORD.23 And (C1)the servants of Amon conspired against him and killed the king in his own house.24 Then (C1)the people of the land (F1)killed all those who had conspired against King Amon, and the people of the land made his son Josiah king in his place.25 Now the rest of the acts of Amon which he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?26 He was buried in his grave (C1)in the garden of Uzza, and his son Josiah became king in his place.

Chapter 2
The Overthrow of Nineveh
1 (F1)The one who (C1)scatters has come up against (F2)you.
Keep watch over the fortress, watch the road;
(F3)Bind up your waist, (F4)summon all your strength.
2 For the LORD will restore the (C1)splendor of Jacob
(C2)Like the splendor of Israel,
Even though destroyers have laid waste to them
And (C3)ruined their vines.
3 The shields of (F1)his warriors are dyed red,
The warriors are dressed in (C1)scarlet,
The chariots are fitted with (F2)flashing steel
(F3)When he is prepared to march,
And the juniper (C2)spears are brandished.
4 The (C1)chariots drive wildly in the streets,
They rush around in the (F1)public squares;
Their appearance is like torches,
They drive back and forth like lightning flashes.
5 He remembers his (C1)officers;
They (C2)stumble in their advance,
They hurry to her wall,
And the (F1)mantelet is set up.
6 The gates of the rivers are opened
And the palace sways back and forth.
7 It is set:
She is stripped, she is led away,
And her slave women are (C1)sobbing like the sound of doves,
(C2)Beating their (F1)breasts.
8 Though Nineveh was like a pool of water throughout her days,
Yet they are fleeing;
"Stop, stop,"
But (C1)no one turns back.
9 Plunder the silver,
Plunder the (C1)gold!
For there is no end to the treasure—
Wealth from every kind of desirable object.
10 She is (C1)emptied! Yes, she is desolate and waste!
(C2)Hearts are melting and knees wobbling!
Also trembling is in (F1)the entire body,
And all their (C3)faces have become pale!
11 Where is the den of the lions
And the feeding place of the (C1)young lions,
Where the lion, lioness, and lion's cub went
With nothing to disturb them?
12 The lion tore enough for his cubs,
(F1)Killed enough prey for his lionesses,
And filled his lairs with prey
And his dens with torn flesh.
13 "Behold, (C1)I am against you," declares the LORD of armies. "I will (C2)burn up her chariots in smoke, and a sword will devour your young lions; I will (C3)eliminate your prey from the land, and no longer will the voice of your messengers be heard."
2 Corinthians 8
Chapter 8
Great Generosity
1 Now, brothers and sisters, we make known to you the grace of God which has been (C1)given in the churches of (C2)Macedonia,2 that in a (F1)great ordeal of affliction their abundance of joy and their deep poverty overflowed in the (C1)wealth of their liberality.3 For I testify that (C1)according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave voluntarily,4 begging us with much urging for the (C1)favor (F1)of participation in the (F2)(C2)support of the (F3)saints,5 and this, not as we had (F1)expected, but they first (C1)gave themselves to the Lord and to us by (C2)the will of God.6 So we (C1)urged (C2)Titus that as he had previously (C3)made a beginning, so he would also complete in you (C4)this gracious work as well.
7 But just as you (C1)excel (C2)in everything, in faith, speaking, knowledge, and in all earnestness and in the (F1)love we inspired in you, see that you also (C1)excel in this gracious work.8 I (C1)am not saying this as a command, but as proving, through the earnestness of others, the sincerity of your love as well.9 For you know (C1)the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that (C2)though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.10 I (C1)give my opinion in this matter, for this is to your advantage, who were the first to begin (C2)a year ago not only to do this, but also to desire to do it.11 But now finish (F1)doing it also, so that just as there was the (C1)willingness to desire it, so there may be also the completion of it by your ability.12 For if the willingness is present, it is acceptable (C1)according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.13 For this is not for the relief of others and for your hardship, but by way of equality—14 at this present time your abundance will serve as assistance for (C1)their need, so that their abundance also may (F1)serve as assistance for (C1)your need, so that there may be equality;15 as it is written: "(C1)THE ONE WHO HAD GATHERED MUCH DID NOT HAVE TOO MUCH, AND THE ONE WHO HAD GATHERED LITTLE DID NOT HAVE TOO LITTLE."
16 But (C1)thanks be to God who (C2)puts the same earnestness in your behalf in the heart of (C3)Titus.17 For he not only accepted our (C1)appeal, but being himself very earnest, he has gone to you of his own accord.18 We have sent along with him (C1)the brother whose fame in the things of the (C2)gospel has spread through (C3)all the churches;19 (C1)and not only that, but he has also been (C2)appointed by the churches to travel with us in (C3)this gracious work, which is being administered by us for the glory of the Lord Himself, and to show our (C4)readiness,20 (F1)taking precaution so that no one will discredit us in our administration of this generous gift;21 for we (C1)have regard for what is honorable, not only in (C2)the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of other people.22 We have sent with them our brother, whom we have often tested and found diligent in many things, but now even more diligent because of his great confidence in you.23 As for (C1)Titus, he is my (C2)partner and fellow worker (F1)among you; as for our (C3)brothers, they are (F2)(C4)messengers of the churches, (C5)a glory to Christ.24 Therefore, (F1)openly before the churches, (F2)show them the proof of your love and of our (C1)reason for boasting about you.
