2 Kings 18
Chapter 18
Hezekiah Reigns over Judah
1 Now it came about (C1)in the third year of Hoshea, the son of Elah king of Israel, that (C2)Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah became king.2 He was (C1)twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned for twenty-nine years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.3 (C1)He did what was right in the sight of the LORD, in accordance with everything that his father David had done.4 (C1)He removed the high places and smashed the memorial stones to pieces, and cut down the (F1)Asherah. He also crushed to pieces (C2)the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the sons of Israel had been burning incense to it; and it was called (F2)Nehushtan.5 (C1)He trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel; and (C2)after him there was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among those who came before him.6 For he (C1)clung to the LORD; he did not desist from following Him, but kept His commandments, which the LORD had commanded Moses.
Hezekiah Victorious
7 (C1)And the LORD was with him; wherever he went he was successful. And (C2)he revolted against the king of Assyria and did not serve him.8 (C1)He (F1)defeated the Philistines as far as Gaza and its territory, from (C2)watchtower to fortified city.9 Now in the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, (C1)Shalmaneser king of Assyria marched against Samaria and besieged it.10 And at the end of three years they captured it; in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was (C1)the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was captured.11 Then the king of Assyria led Israel into exile to Assyria, and put them in (C1)Halah and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.12 This happened because they (C1)did not obey the voice of the LORD their God, but violated His covenant, all that Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded; they would neither listen nor do it.
Invasion of Judah
13 (C1)Now in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria marched against all the fortified cities of Judah and seized them.14 Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent messengers to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, "(C1)I have done wrong. (F1)Withdraw from me; whatever you impose on me I will endure." So the king of Assyria imposed on Hezekiah king of Judah the payment of three hundred (F2)talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.15 (C1)Hezekiah then gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasuries of the king's house.16 At that time Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the LORD, and from the doorposts, which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and he gave it to the king of Assyria.
17 Then the king of Assyria sent (C1)Tartan, Rab-saris, and Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a large army to Jerusalem. So they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they went up, they came and stood by the (C2)conduit of the upper pool, which is on the road of the (F1)fuller's field.18 Then they called to the king, and (C1)Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was in charge of the household, (C2)Shebnah the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the secretary, went out to them.
19 And Rabshakeh said to them, "Say now to Hezekiah, 'This is what the great king, the king of Assyria says: "(C1)What is this confidence that you (F1)have?20 "You say—but they are only (F1)empty words—'I have a plan and strength for the war.' Now on whom have you relied, (C1)that you have revolted against me?21 "Now behold, you have (F1)(C1)relied on the (F2)support of this broken reed, on Egypt; on which if a man leans, it will go into his (F3)hand and pierce it. That is how Pharaoh king of Egypt is to all who rely on him.22 "However, if you say to me, 'We have trusted in the LORD our God,' is it not He whose high places and (C1)whose altars Hezekiah has removed, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, 'You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem'?23 "Now then, (F1)come make a wager with my master the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to put riders on them!24 "How then can you drive back even (F1)one (F2)official of the least of my master's servants, and (F3)rely on Egypt for chariots and horsemen?25 "Have I now come up without (F1)the LORD'S approval against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, 'Go up against this land and destroy it.'"'"
26 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, Shebnah, and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, "Speak now to your servants in Aramaic, because we (F1)understand it; and do not speak with us in (F2)(C1)Judean (F3)so that the people who are on the wall hear you."27 But Rabshakeh said to them, "Has my master sent me only to your master and to you to speak these words? Has he not also sent me to the men who sit on the wall, doomed to eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?"
28 Then Rabshakeh stood up and shouted with a loud voice in Judean, (F1)saying, "Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria!29 "This is what the king says: '(C1)Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to save you from (F1)my hand.30 'And do not let Hezekiah lead you to trust in the LORD by saying, "The LORD will certainly save us, and this city will not be handed over to the king of Assyria."31 'Do not listen to Hezekiah, for this is what the king of Assyria says: "Make (F1)your peace with me and come out to me, and eat, (C1)each one, from his vine and each from his fig tree, and drink, each one, the waters of his own cistern,32 until I come and take you (C1)to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees producing oil, and of honey, so that you will live and not die." But do not listen to Hezekiah, because he misleads you by saying, "The LORD will save us."33 '(C1)Has any of the gods of the nations actually saved his land from the hand of the king of Assyria?34 '(C1)Where are the gods of Hamath and (C2)Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and (F1)(C3)Ivvah? Have they saved Samaria from my hand?35 'Who among all the gods of the lands are there who have saved their land from my hand, (C1)that the LORD would save Jerusalem from my hand?'"
36 But the people were silent and did not answer him with even a word, because it was the king's (F1)command: "Do not answer him."37 Then (C1)Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was in charge of the household, and Shebna the scribe and Joah the son of Asaph, the secretary, came to Hezekiah (C2)with their clothes torn, and they reported to him the words of Rabshakeh.
Micah 7
Chapter 7
The Prophet Acknowledges Injustice
1 Woe to me! For I am
Like harvests of summer fruit, like gleanings of (C1)grapes.
There is not a cluster of grapes left to eat,
Nor an (C2)early fig, which (F1)I crave.
2 The (F1)godly person has (C1)perished from the land,
And there is no upright person among mankind.
All of them lie in wait for (C2)bloodshed;
Each of them hunts the other with a (C3)net.
3 As for evil, both hands do it (C1)well.
The leader asks for a (C2)bribe, also the judge,
And the great one speaks the capricious desire of his soul;
So they plot it together.
4 The best of them is like a (C1)thorn bush,
The most upright like a (C2)thorn hedge.
The day (F1)when you post your watchmen,
Your (C3)punishment is coming.
Then their (C4)confusion will occur.
5 Do not (C1)trust in a neighbor;
Do not have confidence in a close friend.
Guard (F1)your lips
From her who lies (F2)in your arms.
6 For (C1)son disavows father,
Daughter rises up against her mother,
Daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
(C2)A person's enemies are the people of his own household.
God Is the Source of Salvation and Light
7 But as for me, I will (C1)be on the watch for the LORD;
I will (C2)wait for the God of my salvation.
My (C3)God will hear me.
8 (C1)Do not rejoice over me, (C2)enemy of mine.
Though I fall I will (C3)rise;
Though I live in darkness, the LORD is a (C4)light for me.
9 I will endure the rage of the LORD
Because I have sinned against Him,
Until He (C1)pleads my case and executes justice for me.
He will bring me out to the (C2)light,
And I will look at His (F1)(C3)righteousness.
10 Then my enemy will see,
And shame will cover her who (C1)said to me,
"Where is the LORD your God?"
My eyes will look at her;
(F1)At that time she will (F2)be (C2)trampled down
Like mud of the streets.
11 It will be a day for (C1)building your walls.
On that day your boundary will be extended.
12 It will be a day when (F1)they will (C1)come to you
From Assyria and the cities of Egypt,
From Egypt even to the Euphrates River,
Even from sea to sea and mountain to mountain.
13 And the earth will become a (C1)wasteland because of her inhabitants,
On account of the (C2)fruit of their deeds.
14 (C1)Shepherd Your people with Your (C2)scepter,
The flock of Your (F1)possession
Which lives by itself in the woodland,
In the midst of (F2)a fruitful field.
Let them feed in (C3)Bashan and Gilead
(C4)As in the days of old.
15 "As in the days when you went out from the land of Egypt,
I will show (F1)(C1)you miracles."
16 Nations (C1)will see and be ashamed
Of all their might.
They will (C2)put their hand on their mouth,
Their ears will be deaf.
17 They will (C1)lick up dust like a snake,
Like (F1)(C2)reptiles of the earth.
They will come (C3)trembling out of their (F2)fortresses;
To the LORD our God they will come in (C4)trepidation,
And they will be afraid of You.
18 Who is a God like You, who (C1)pardons wrongdoing
And passes over a rebellious act of the (C2)remnant of His (F1)possession?
He does not (C3)retain His anger forever,
Because He (C4)delights in mercy.
19 He will again take pity on us;
(C1)He will trample on our wrongdoings.
Yes, You will (C2)cast all (F1)their sins
Into the depths of the sea.
20 You will give (F1)(C1)truth to Jacob
And favor to Abraham,
Which You (C2)swore to our forefathers
From the days of old.
2 Corinthians 5:11-6:13
Chapter 5
11 Therefore, knowing the (C1)fear of the Lord, we persuade people, but we are well known to God; and I hope that we are also (C2)well known in your consciences.12 We are not commending ourselves to you (C1)again, but are giving you an (C2)opportunity to be proud of us, so that you will have an answer for those who take pride in appearance and not in heart.13 For if we have (C1)lost our minds, it is for God; if we are of sound mind, it is for you.14 For the love of Christ (C1)controls us, having concluded this, that (C2)one died for all, therefore all died;15 and He died for all, so that those who live would no longer (C1)live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose on their behalf.
16 Therefore from now on we recognize no one (F1)(C1)by the flesh; even though we have known Christ by the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer.17 Therefore if anyone is (C1)in Christ, this person is (C2)a new (F1)creation; (C3)the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.18 Now (C1)all these things are from God, (C2)who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the (C3)ministry of reconciliation,19 namely, that (C1)God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, (C2)not counting their wrongdoings against them, and (F1)He has (F2)committed to us the word of reconciliation.
20 Therefore, we are (C1)ambassadors for Christ, (C2)as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be (C3)reconciled to God.21 He made Him who (C1)knew no sin to be (F1)(C2)sin in our behalf, so that we might become the (C3)righteousness of God in Him.
Chapter 6
Their Ministry Commended
1 And (C1)working together with Him, (C2)we also urge you not to receive (C3)the grace of God in vain—2 for He says, "(C1)AT A FAVORABLE TIME I LISTENED TO YOU,
AND ON A DAY OF SALVATION I HELPED YOU."
Behold, now is "A FAVORABLE TIME," behold, now is "A DAY OF SALVATION"—
11 (C1)Our mouth (F1)has spoken freely to you, you Corinthians, our (C2)heart is opened wide.12 You are not restrained (F1)by us, but (C1)you are restrained in your own (F2)affections.13 Now in the same way in (C1)exchange—I am speaking as to (C2)children—open wide your hearts to us, you as well.<
