Psalms 116,117,118
Psalm 116
Thanks to God for Deliverance
1 I love the
Lord
because He has heard
my appeal for mercy.(a)
2 Because He has turned His ear to me,
I will call out to Him as long as I live.(b)
3 The ropes of death were wrapped around me,
and the torments of Sheol overcame me;
I encountered trouble and sorrow.(c)
4 Then I called on the name of Yahweh:
"Yahweh, save me!"(d)
5 The
Lord
is gracious and righteous;
our God is compassionate.(e)
6 The
Lord
guards the inexperienced;
I was helpless, and He saved me.(f)
7 Return to your rest, my soul,
for the
Lord
has been good to you.(g)
8 For You,
Lord
, rescued me from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling.(h)
9 I will walk before the
Lord
in the land of the living.(i)
10 I believed, even when I said,
"I am severely afflicted."(j)
11 In my alarm I said,
"Everyone is a liar."(k)
12 How can I repay the
Lord
for all the good He has done for me?(l)
13 I will take the cup of salvation
and call on the name of Yahweh.(m)
14 I will fulfill my vows to the
Lord
in the presence of all His people.(n)
15 The death of His faithful ones
is valuable in the
Lord
's sight.(o)
16
Lord
, I am indeed Your servant;
I am Your servant, the son of Your female servant.
You have loosened my bonds.(p)
17 I will offer You a sacrifice of thanksgiving
and call on the name of Yahweh.(q)
18 I will fulfill my vows to the
Lord
in the presence of all His people,(r)
19 in the courts of the
Lord
's house—
within you, Jerusalem.(s)
Hallelujah!
Psalm 117
Universal Call to Praise
1 Praise the
Lord
, all nations!
Glorify Him, all peoples!(a)
2 For His faithful love to us is great;
the
Lord
's faithfulness endures forever.(b)
Hallelujah!
Psalm 118
Thanksgiving for Victory
1 Give thanks to the
Lord
, for He is good;
His faithful love endures forever.(a)
2 Let Israel say,
"His faithful love endures forever."(b)
3 Let the house of Aaron say,
"His faithful love endures forever."(c)
4 Let those who fear the
Lord
say,
"His faithful love endures forever."(d)
5 I called to the
Lord
in distress;(e)
the
Lord
answered me
and put me in a spacious place.[a](f)
6 The
Lord
is for me; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?(g)
7 The
Lord
is my helper,
Therefore, I will look in triumph on those who hate me.(h)
8 It is better to take refuge in the
Lord
than to trust in man.(i)
9 It is better to take refuge in the
Lord
than to trust in nobles.(j)
10 All the nations surrounded me;
in the name of Yahweh I destroyed them.(k)
11 They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me;
in the name of Yahweh I destroyed them.(l)
12 They surrounded me like bees;(m)
they were extinguished like a fire among thorns;
in the name of Yahweh I destroyed them.(n)
13 You[b] pushed me[c] hard to make me fall,
but the
Lord
helped me.(o)
14 The
Lord
is my strength and my song;
He has become my salvation.(p)
15 There are shouts of joy and victory
in the tents of the righteous:
"The
Lord
's right hand performs valiantly!(q)
16 The
Lord
's right hand is raised.
The
Lord
's right hand performs valiantly!"(r)
17 I will not die, but I will live
and proclaim what the
Lord
has done.(s)
18 The
Lord
disciplined me severely
but did not give me over to death.(t)
19 Open the gates of righteousness for me;
I will enter through them
and give thanks to the
Lord
.(u)
20 This is the gate of the
Lord
;
the righteous will enter through it.(v)
21 I will give thanks to You
because You have answered me
and have become my salvation.(w)
22 The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.(x)
23 This came from the
Lord
;
it is wonderful in our eyes.(y)
24 This is the day the
Lord
has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.(z)
25
Lord
, save us!
Lord
, please grant us success!(aa)
26 He who comes in the name
of the
Lord
is blessed.(ab)
From the house of the
Lord
we bless you.(ac)
27 The
Lord
is God and has given us light.
Bind the festival sacrifice with cords
to the horns of the altar.(ad)
28 You are my God, and I will give You thanks.
You are my God; I will exalt You.(ae)
29 Give thanks to the
Lord
, for He is good;
His faithful love endures forever.(af)
1 Thessalonians 4
Chapter 4
The Call to Sanctification
1 Finally then, brothers, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus, that as you have received from us how you must walk and please God—as you are doing[a]—do so even more. 2 For you know what commands we gave you through the Lord Jesus.
3 For this is God's will,(a) your sanctification:(b) that you abstain(c) from sexual immorality, 4 so that each of you knows how to control his own body[b] in sanctification and honor, 5 not with lustful desires,(d) like the Gentiles who don't know God. 6 This means one must not transgress against and defraud(e) his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger of all these offenses,[c] as we also previously told and warned you. 7 For God has not called us to impurity(f) but to sanctification. 8 Therefore, the person who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who also gives you His Holy Spirit.(g)
Loving and Working
9 About brotherly love: You don't need me to write you because you yourselves are taught by God(h) to love one another.(i) 10 In fact, you are doing this toward all the brothers in the entire region of Macedonia.(j) But we encourage you, brothers, to do so even more, 11 to seek to lead a quiet life,(k) to mind your own business,[d] and to work(l) with your own hands, as we commanded you, 12 so that you may walk properly[e](m) in the presence of outsiders[f] and not be dependent on anyone.[g](n)
The Comfort of Christ's Coming
13 We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.(o) 14 Since we believe that Jesus died and rose(p) again,(q) in the same way God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep through[h] Jesus.(r) 15 For we say this to you by a revelation from the Lord:[i](s) We who are still alive at the Lord's coming(t) will certainly have no advantage over[j] those who have fallen asleep.(u) 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout,[k](v) with the archangel's(w) voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ(x) will rise first. 17 Then(y) we who are still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds(z) to meet the Lord in the air and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage[l] one another with these words.
