2 Kings 10

Chapter 10

Judgment upon Ahab's House

1 Now Ahab had seventy sons in (C1)Samaria. And Jehu wrote letters and sent them to Samaria, to the officials of Jezreel, the elders, and to the guardians of the children of Ahab, saying,2 "And now, (C1)when this letter comes to you, since your master's sons are with you, (F1)as well as the chariots and horses, and a fortified city and the weapons,3 select the best and most capable of your master's sons and seat him on his father's throne, and fight for your master's house."4 But they feared greatly and said, "Behold, (C1)the two kings did not stand firm before him; how then can we stand?"5 And the one who was in charge of the household, and the one who was in charge of the city, and the elders, and the guardians of the children, sent word to Jehu, saying, "(C1)We are your servants, and everything that you tell us we will do. We will not appoint any man king; do what is good in your sight."6 Then he wrote them a letter a second time, saying, "If you are on my side, and will listen to my voice, take the heads of the men, your master's sons, and come to me at Jezreel about this time tomorrow." Now the king's sons, seventy men, were with the great people of the city, who were raising them.7 When the letter came to them, they took the king's sons and (C1)slaughtered them, seventy men, and put their heads in baskets, and sent them to him at Jezreel.8 When the messenger came and informed him, saying, "They have brought the heads of the king's sons," he said, "Put them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until morning."9 Now in the morning he went out and stood and said to all the people, "You are (F1)innocent; behold, (C1)I conspired against my master and killed him, but (C2)who (F2)killed all these?10 "Know then that (C1)nothing of the word of the LORD, which the LORD spoke concerning the house of Ahab, shall (F1)fall to the earth, for the LORD has done (C2)what He spoke (F2)through His servant Elijah."11 So Jehu (F1)killed all who remained of the house of Ahab in (C1)Jezreel, and all his great men, his acquaintances, and his priests, until he left him without a survivor.

12 Then he set out and (F1)went to Samaria. On the way while he was at (F2)Beth-eked of the shepherds,13 (C1)Jehu (F1)encountered the relatives of Ahaziah king of Judah, and he said, "Who are you?" And they (F2)answered, "We are the relatives of Ahaziah; and we have come down to greet the sons of the king and the sons of the queen mother."14 Then he said, "Take them alive." So they took them alive, and slaughtered them at the pit of Beth-eked, forty-two men; and he left none of them.

15 Now when he had gone from there, he (F1)encountered (C1)Jehonadab the son of (C2)Rechab coming to meet him; and he (F2)greeted him and said to him, "Is your heart right, just as my heart is with your heart?" And Jehonadab (F3)answered, "It is." Jehu said, "If it is, (C3)give me your hand." And he gave him his hand, and he pulled him up to him into the chariot.16 Then he said, "Come with me and (C1)see my zeal for the LORD." So (F1)he had him ride in his chariot.17 When he came to Samaria, (C1)he (F1)killed all who remained to Ahab in Samaria, until he had eliminated (F2)them, (C2)in accordance with the word of the LORD which He spoke to Elijah.

Jehu Destroys Baal Worshipers

18 Then Jehu gathered all the people and said to them, "(C1)Ahab served Baal a little; Jehu will serve him much.19 "Now, (C1)summon to me all the prophets of Baal, all his worshipers and all his priests; let no one go missing, because I have a great sacrifice for Baal; whoever is missing shall not live." But Jehu did it in deception, in order to eliminate the worshipers of Baal.20 And Jehu said, "(C1)Proclaim a holy assembly for Baal." And (C2)they proclaimed it.21 Then Jehu sent word (F1)throughout Israel, and all the worshipers of Baal came, so that there was not a person left who did not come. And when they entered (C1)the house of Baal, the house of Baal was filled from one end to the other.22 And he said to the one who was (F1)in charge of the wardrobe, "Bring out garments for all the worshipers of Baal." So he brought out the garments for them.23 Then Jehu entered the house of Baal with Jehonadab the son of Rechab; and he said to the worshipers of Baal, "Search carefully and see to it that there is here with you none of the servants of the LORD, but only the worshipers of Baal."

24 Then they entered to (F1)offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had stationed for himself eighty men outside, and he had said, "(C1)The one who allows any of the men whom I bring into your hands to escape (F2)shall give up his life in exchange."

25 Then it came about, as soon as he had finished (F1)offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the (F2)(C1)guard and to the royal officers, "(C2)Go in, (F3)kill them; let none come out." So they (F4)killed them with the edge of the sword; and the (F2)guard and the royal officers threw them out, and went to the (F5)sanctuary of the house of Baal.26 They brought out the (C1)memorial stones of the house of Baal and burned them.27 They also tore down the memorial stone of Baal and tore down the house of Baal, and (C1)made it a latrine as it is to this day.

28 So Jehu eradicated Baal from Israel.29 However, (C1)as for the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, into which he misled Israel, from these Jehu did not desist, including the (C2)golden calves that were at Bethel and at Dan.30 Yet the LORD said to Jehu, "Because you have done well in performing what is right in My eyes, and have done to the house of Ahab in accordance with everything that was in My heart, (C1)your sons to the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel."31 But Jehu (C1)was not careful to walk in the Law of the LORD, the God of Israel, with all his heart; (C2)he did not desist from the sins of Jeroboam, into which he misled Israel.

32 In those days the (C1)LORD began to cut off pieces from Israel; and (C2)Hazael (F1)defeated them throughout the territory of Israel:33 from the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, the Reubenites, and the Manassites; from (C1)Aroer, which is by the Valley of the Arnon, that is, (C2)Gilead and Bashan.

Jehoahaz Succeeds Jehu

34 Now as for the rest of the acts of Jehu and everything that he did and all his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?35 And Jehu (F1)lay down with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. And his son Jehoahaz became king in his place.36 So the (F1)time which Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years.

Micah 1

Chapter 1

Destruction in Israel and Judah

1 The (C1)word of the LORD which came to (C2)Micah of Moresheth in the days of (C3)Jotham, (C4)Ahaz, and (C5)Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and which he saw regarding Samaria and Jerusalem.

2 Hear, you peoples, all of (F1)you;
(C1)Listen carefully, earth and (F2)all it contains,
And may the Lord (F3)GOD be a (C2)witness against you,
The Lord from His holy temple.

3 For behold, the LORD is (C1)coming forth from His place.
He will come down and (C2)tread on the high places of the (F1)earth.

4 (C1)The mountains will melt under Him
And the valleys will be split,
Like wax before the fire,
Like water poured down a steep place.

5 All this is due to the (F1)wrongdoing of Jacob
And the sins of the house of Israel.
What is the (F1)(C1)wrongdoing of Jacob?
Is it not (C2)Samaria?
What is the (C3)high (F2)place of Judah?
Is it not Jerusalem?

6 For I will make Samaria a (C1)heap of ruins (F1)in the open country,
(C2)Planting places for a vineyard.
I will (C3)hurl her stones down into the valley,
And (C4)lay bare her foundations.

7 All of her (C1)idols will be crushed,
All of her earnings will be burned with fire,
And all of her images I will make desolate;
For she collected them from a (C2)prostitute's earnings,
And to the earnings of a prostitute they will return.

8 Because of this I must mourn and wail,
I must go (C1)barefoot and naked;
I must do mourning like the (C2)jackals,
And a mourning like the ostriches.

9 For her (C1)wound is incurable,
For (C2)it has come to Judah;
It has reached the (C3)gate of my people,
Even to Jerusalem.

10 (C1)Do not tell it in Gath,
Do not weep at all.
At (F1)Beth-le-aphrah roll yourself in the dust in mourning.

11 (F1)Go on your way, inhabitant of (F2)Shaphir, in (C1)shameful nakedness.
The inhabitant of (F3)(C2)Zaanan does not (F4)escape.
The mourning of (F5)Beth-ezel: "He will take from you its (F6)support."

12 For the inhabitant of (F1)Maroth
(F2)(C1)Waits for something good,
Because a disaster has come down from the LORD
To the (C2)gate of Jerusalem.

13 Harness the chariot to the team of horses,
You inhabitant of (C1)Lachish—
She was the beginning of sin
To the daughter of Zion—
Because in you were found
The (C2)rebellious acts of Israel.

14 Therefore you will give parting (C1)gifts
In behalf of Moresheth-gath;
The houses of (C2)Achzib will become a (F1)(C3)deception
To the kings of Israel.

15 Moreover, I will bring on you
The one who takes possession,
You inhabitant of (F1)(C1)Mareshah.
The glory of Israel will enter (C2)Adullam.

16 Shave yourself (C1)bald, yes, cut off your hair,
Because of the children of your delight;
Extend your baldness like the eagle,
For they will (C2)go from you into exile.

1 Corinthians 15:1-34

Chapter 15

The Fact of Christ's Resurrection

1 Now (C1)I make known to you, brothers and sisters, the (C2)gospel which I preached to you, which you also received, (C3)in which you also stand,2 by which you also are saved, (C1)if you hold firmly to (F1)the word which I preached to you, (C2)unless you believed in vain.

3 For (C1)I handed down to you (F1)as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died (C2)for our sins (C3)according to the Scriptures,4 and that He was buried, and that He was (C1)raised on the third day (C2)according to the Scriptures,5 and that (C1)He appeared to (F1)(C2)Cephas, then (C3)to the twelve.6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some (C1)have fallen asleep;7 then He appeared to (F1)(C1)James, then to (C2)all the apostles;8 and last of all, as (F1)to one untimely born, (C1)He appeared to me also.9 For I am (C1)the least of the apostles, (F1)and not fit to be called an apostle, because I (C2)persecuted the church of God.10 But by (C1)the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I (C2)labored even more than all of them, yet (C3)not I, but the grace of God with me.11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there (C1)is no resurrection of the dead?13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised;14 and (C1)if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, your faith also is in vain.15 Moreover, we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified (F1)against God that He (C1)raised (F2)Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised.16 For if the dead are not raised, then not even Christ has been raised;17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; (C1)you are still in your sins.18 Then also those who (C1)have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.19 If we have hoped in Christ only in this life, we are (C1)of all people most to be pitied.

The Order of Resurrection

20 But the fact is, Christ (C1)has been raised from the dead, the (C2)first fruits of those who (C3)are asleep.21 For since (C1)by a man death came, by a Man also came the resurrection of the dead.22 For (C1)as in Adam all die, so also in (F1)Christ all will be made alive.23 But each in his own order: Christ (C1)the first fruits, after that (C2)those who are Christ's at (C3)His coming,24 then comes the end, when He hands over (C1)the kingdom to our (C2)God and Father, when He has abolished (C3)all rule and all authority and power.25 For He must reign (C1)until He has put all His enemies under His feet.26 The last enemy that will be (C1)abolished is death.27 For (C1)HE HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. But when He says, "(C2)All things are put in subjection," it is clear that (F1)this excludes the Father who put all things in subjection to Him.28 When (C1)all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that (C2)God may be all in all.

29 For otherwise, what will those do who are baptized (F1)for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized (F1)for them?30 Why are we also (C1)in danger every hour?31 I affirm, brothers and sisters, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, that (C1)I die daily.32 If (F1)from human motives I (C1)fought with wild beasts at (C2)Ephesus, what good is it to me? If the dead are not raised, (C3)LET'S EAT AND DRINK, FOR TOMORROW WE DIE.33 (C1)Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals."34 (C1)Sober up (F1)morally and stop sinning, for some have (C2)no knowledge of God. (C3)I say this to your shame.<
