Chapter 19
Elijah Flees from Jezebel
1 Now Ahab told Jezebel everything that Elijah had done, and (F1)(C1)how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "(C1)So may the gods do to me and more so, if by about this time tomorrow I do not make your (F1)life like the (F1)life of one of them."3 And he (F1)was afraid, and got up and ran for his (F2)life and came to (C1)Beersheba, which belongs to Judah; and he left his servant there.4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree; and (C1)he asked for himself to die, and said, "Enough! Now, LORD, take my (F1)life, for I am no better than my fathers."5 Then he lay down and fell asleep under a broom tree; but behold, there was (C1)an angel touching him, and he said to him, "Arise, eat!"6 And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a round loaf of bread baked on hot coals, and a pitcher of water. So he ate and drank, and lay down again.7 But the angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him, and said, "Arise, eat; because the journey is too long for you."8 So he arose and ate and drank, and he journeyed in the strength of that food for (C1)forty days and forty nights to (C2)Horeb, the mountain of God.
Elijah at Horeb
9 Then he came there to a cave and spent the night there; and behold, (C1)the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"10 And he said, "(C1)I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of armies; for the sons of Israel have abandoned Your covenant, (C2)torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. And (C3)I alone am left; and they have sought to take my life."
11 So He said, "(C1)Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD." And behold, the LORD was passing by! And (C2)a great and powerful wind was tearing out the mountains and breaking the rocks in pieces before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.12 And after the earthquake, a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire, (C1)a sound of a gentle blowing.13 When Elijah heard it, (C1)he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, (C2)a voice came to him and said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"14 Then he said, "(C1)I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of armies; for the sons of Israel have abandoned Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they have sought to take my life."
15 The LORD said to him, "Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus; and when you have arrived, (C1)you shall anoint Hazael king over Aram.16 You shall also anoint (C1)Jehu the son of Nimshi king over Israel; and you shall anoint (C2)Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah as prophet in your place.17 "And it shall come about that the (C1)one who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu (C2)shall put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall put to death.18 "(C1)Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not (C2)kissed him."
19 So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat while he was plowing, with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he with the twelfth. And Elijah came over to him and threw (C1)his cloak on him.20 Then he left the oxen behind and ran after Elijah, and said, "Please (C1)let me kiss my father and my mother, then I will follow you." And he said to him, "Go back, for (F1)what have I done to you?"21 So he returned from following him, and took the pair of oxen and sacrificed them, and (C1)cooked their meat with the implements of the oxen, and gave it to the people and they ate. Then he got up and followed Elijah and served him.
Amos 3:3-4:3
Chapter 3
3 Do two people walk together unless they have agreed to meet?
4 Does a (C1)lion roar in the forest when he has no prey?
Does a young lion (F1)growl from his den unless he has captured something?
5 Does a bird fall into a trap on the ground when there is no (F1)device in it?
Does a trap spring up from the earth when it captures nothing at all?
6 If a (C1)trumpet is blown in a city, will the people not tremble?
If a (C2)disaster occurs in a city, has the LORD not brought it about?
7 (F1)Certainly the Lord (F2)GOD does nothing
Unless He (C1)reveals His secret plan
To His servants the prophets.
8 A (C1)lion has roared! Who will not fear?
The (C2)Lord GOD has spoken! (C3)Who can do anything but prophesy?
9 Proclaim on the citadels in (C1)Ashdod and on the citadels in the land of Egypt and say, "Assemble yourselves on the (C2)mountains of Samaria and see the great panic within her and the (C3)oppressions in her midst.10 "But they (C1)do not know how to do what is right," declares the LORD, "these who (C2)store up (F1)violence and devastation in their citadels."
11 Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says:
"An (C1)enemy, one surrounding the land,
Will take down your fortifications from you,
And your (C2)citadels will be looted."
"Just as the shepherd (F1)(C1)snatches from the lion's mouth a couple of legs or a piece of an ear,
So will the sons of Israel living in Samaria be (F2)snatched away—
With the (C2)corner of a bed and the (F3)(C3)cover of a couch!
13 "Hear and (C1)testify against the house of Jacob,"
Declares the Lord GOD, the God of armies.
14 "For on the day that I punish Israel's offenses,
I will also punish the altars of (C1)Bethel;
The horns of the altar will be cut off,
And will fall to the ground.
15 "I will also strike the (C1)winter house together with the (C2)summer house;
The houses of (F1)(C3)ivory will also perish,
And the (C4)great houses will come to an end,"
Declares the LORD.
Chapter 4
"Yet You Have Not Returned to Me"
1 Hear this word, you (F1)cows of (C1)Bashan who are on the (C2)mountain of Samaria,
Who (C3)exploit the poor, who oppress the needy,
(F2)And say to their (F3)husbands, "Bring now, that we may (C4)drink!"
2 The Lord (F1)GOD has (C1)sworn by His (C2)holiness,
"For behold, the days are coming upon you
When (F2)they will take you away with (C3)meat hooks,
And the last of you with (C4)fish hooks.
3 "You will (C1)go out through holes in the walls,
One in front of the other,
And you (F1)will be hurled to Harmon," declares the LORD.<

Chapter 6
Lawsuits Discouraged
1 Does any one of you, when he has a (F1)case against (F2)his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous and (C1)not before the (F3)saints?2 Or (C1)do you not know that (C2)the (F1)saints will judge (C3)the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to form the smallest (F2)law courts?3 (C1)Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life?4 So if you have law courts dealing with matters of this life, (F1)do you appoint them as judges who are of no account in the church?5 (C1)I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not among you anyone wise who will be able to decide between his (C2)brothers and sisters,6 but brother goes to law with brother, and that before (C1)unbelievers?
7 Actually, then, it is already a defeat for you, that you have lawsuits with one another. (C1)Why not rather suffer the wrong? Why not rather be defrauded?8 On the contrary, you yourselves do wrong and defraud. And this to your (C1)brothers and sisters!
9 Or (C1)do you not know that the unrighteous will not (C2)inherit the kingdom of God? (C3)Do not be deceived; (C4)neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor (F1)homosexuals,10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor those habitually drunk, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will (C1)inherit the kingdom of God.11 (C1)Such were some of you; but you were (C2)washed, but you were (C3)sanctified, but you were (C4)justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and (F1)in the Spirit of our God.
The Body Is the Lord's
12 (C1)All things are permitted for me, but not all things are of benefit. All things are permitted for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.13 (C1)Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, however God will (C2)do away with both (F1)of them. But the body is not for sexual immorality, but (C3)for the Lord, and (C4)the Lord is for the body.14 Now God has not only (C1)raised the Lord, but (C2)will also raise us up through His power.15 (C1)Do you not know that (C2)your bodies are parts of Christ? Shall I then take away the parts of Christ and make them parts of a prostitute? (F1)(C3)Far from it!16 Or (C1)do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, "(C2)THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH."17 But the one who joins himself to the Lord is (C1)one spirit with Him.18 (C1)Flee sexual immorality. Every other sin that a person commits is outside the body, but the (F1)sexually immoral person sins against his own body.19 Or (C1)do you not know that (C2)your body is a (F1)temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from (F2)God, and that (C3)you are not your own?20 For (C1)you have been bought for a price: therefore glorify God in (C2)your body.
