1 Kings 15:33-16:34
Chapter 15
33 In the third year of Judah's King Asa, Baasha son of Ahijah became king over all Israel and reigned in Tirzah(bd) 24 years. 34 He did what was evil in the Lord 's sight and followed the example of Jeroboam and the sin he had caused Israel to commit.(be)
Chapter 16
1 Now the word of the Lord came to Jehu(a) son of Hanani(b) against Baasha: 2 "Because I raised you up from the dust(c) and made you ruler over My people Israel,(d) but you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have caused My people Israel to sin,(e) provoking Me with their sins, 3 take note: I will sweep away Baasha and his house, and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat:(f)
4 Anyone who belongs to Baasha and dies in the city,
the dogs will eat,
and anyone who is his and dies in the field,
the birds of the sky will eat."(g)
5 The rest of the events of Baasha's reign, along with all his accomplishments and might, are written in the Historical Record of Israel's Kings.(h) 6 Baasha rested with his fathers and was buried in Tirzah. His son Elah became king in his place. 7 Through the prophet Jehu(i) son of Hanani the word of the Lord also came against Baasha and against his house because of all the evil he had done in the Lord 's sight, provoking Him with the work of his hands and being like the house of Jeroboam, and because Baasha had struck down the house of Jeroboam.(j)
Israel's King Elah
8 In the twenty-sixth year of Judah's King Asa, Elah son of Baasha became king over Israel and reigned in Tirzah(k) two years.
9 His servant Zimri,(l) commander of half his chariots, conspired against him while Elah was in Tirzah getting drunk(m) in the house of Arza, who was in charge of the household(n) at Tirzah. 10 In the twenty-seventh year of Judah's King Asa, Zimri went in, struck Elah down, killing him. Then Zimri became king in his place.(o)
11 When he became king, as soon as he was seated on his throne, Zimri struck down the entire house of Baasha. He did not leave a single male,[a](p) including his kinsmen and his friends. 12 So Zimri destroyed the entire house of Baasha, according to the word of the Lord He had spoken against Baasha through Jehu the prophet.(q) 13 This happened because of all the sins of Baasha and those of his son Elah, which they committed and caused Israel to commit, provoking the Lord God of Israel(r) with their worthless idols.(s)
14 The rest of the events of Elah's reign, along with all his accomplishments, are written in the Historical Record of Israel's Kings.(t)
Israel's King Zimri
15 In the twenty-seventh year of Judah's King Asa, Zimri became king for seven days in Tirzah.(u) Now the troops were encamped against Gibbethon of the Philistines.(v) 16 When these troops heard that Zimri had not only conspired but had also struck down the king, then all Israel made Omri, the army commander, king over Israel that very day in the camp. 17 Omri along with all Israel marched up from Gibbethon and besieged Tirzah.(w) 18 When Zimri saw that the city was captured, he entered the citadel of the royal palace and burned it down over himself. He died 19 because of the sin he committed by doing what was evil in the Lord 's sight and by following the example of Jeroboam and the sin he caused Israel to commit.(x)
20 The rest of the events of Zimri's reign, along with the conspiracy that he instigated, are written in the Historical Record of Israel's Kings. 21 At that time the people of Israel were divided: half the people followed Tibni son of Ginath, to make him king, and half followed Omri. 22 However, the people who followed Omri proved stronger than those who followed Tibni son of Ginath. So Tibni died and Omri became king.
Israel's King Omri
23 In the thirty-first year of Judah's King Asa, Omri became king over Israel and reigned 12 years. He reigned six years in Tirzah,(y) 24 then he bought the hill of Samaria(z) from Shemer for 150 pounds[b] of silver, and he built up the hill. He named the city he built Samaria[c] based on the name Shemer, the owner of the hill.
25 Omri did what was evil in the Lord 's sight; he did more evil than all who were before him.(aa) 26 He followed the example of Jeroboam son of Nebat and in his sins that he caused Israel to commit, provoking the Lord God of Israel with their worthless idols.(ab) 27 The rest of the events of Omri's reign, along with his accomplishments and the might he exercised, are written in the Historical Record of Israel's Kings. 28 Omri rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria. His son Ahab became king in his place.
Israel's King Ahab
29 Ahab son of Omri became king over Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Judah's King Asa; Ahab son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria 22 years. 30 But Ahab son of Omri did what was evil in the Lord 's sight more than all who were before him.(ac) 31 Then, as if following the sin of Jeroboam son of Nebat were a trivial matter, he married Jezebel,(ad) the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians,(ae) and then proceeded to serve Baal and worship him.(af) 32 He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal(ag) that he had built in Samaria. 33 Ahab also made an Asherah pole.(ah) Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel than all the kings of Israel who were before him.(ai)
34 During his reign, Hiel the Bethelite built Jericho. At the cost of Abiram his firstborn, he laid its foundation, and at the cost of Segub his youngest, he set up its gates, according to the word of the Lord He had spoken through Joshua son of Nun.(aj)

Chapter 3
Judgment of the Nations
1 [a]Yes, in those days and at that time,
when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,(a)
2 I will gather all the nations(b)
and take them to the Valley of Jehoshaphat.[b](c)
I will enter into judgment with them there(d)
because of My people, My inheritance Israel.
The nations have scattered the Israelites
in foreign countries(e)
and divided up My land.(f)
3 They cast lots for My people;(g)
they bartered a boy for a prostitute
and sold a girl for wine to drink.(h)
4 And also: Tyre,(i) Sidon, and all the territories of Philistia(j)—what are you to Me? Are you paying Me back or trying to get even with Me? I will quickly bring retribution on your heads.(k) 5 For you took My silver and gold and carried My finest treasures(l) to your temples. 6 You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks(m) to remove them far from their own territory. 7 Look, I am about to rouse them up from the place where you sold them;(n) I will bring retribution on your heads. 8 I will sell your sons and daughters into the hands of the people of Judah,(o) and they will sell them to the Sabeans,[c](p) to a distant nation, for the Lord has spoken.
9 Proclaim this among the nations:(q)
Prepare for holy war;(r)
rouse the warriors;(s)
let all the men of war advance and attack!
10 Beat your plows into swords
and your pruning knives into spears.(t)
Let even the weakling say, "I am a warrior."
11 Come quickly,[d] all you surrounding nations;
gather yourselves.(u)
Bring down Your warriors there,
Lord
.(v)
12 Let the nations be roused
and come to the Valley of Jehoshaphat,
for there I will sit down
to judge all the surrounding nations.(w)
13 Swing the sickle
because the harvest is ripe.(x)
Come and trample the grapes
because the winepress is full;(y)
the wine vats overflow
because the wickedness of the nations is great.(z)
14 Multitudes, multitudes(aa)
in the valley of decision!
For the Day of the
Lord
is near(ab)
in the valley of decision.
15 The sun and moon will grow dark,
and the stars will cease their shining.(ac)
16 The
Lord
will roar from Zion(ad)
and raise His voice from Jerusalem;(ae)
heaven and earth will shake.(af)
But the
Lord
will be a refuge for His people,(ag)
a stronghold for the Israelites.(ah)
Israel Blessed
17 Then you will know
that I am Yahweh your God,(ai)
who dwells in Zion, My holy mountain.(aj)
Jerusalem will be holy,(ak)
and foreigners will never overrun it again.(al)
18 In that day
the mountains will drip with sweet wine,(am)
and the hills will flow with milk.(an)
All the streams of Judah will flow with water,(ao)
and a spring will issue from the
Lord
's house,(ap)
watering the Valley of Acacias.[e](aq)
19 Egypt will become desolate,
and Edom a desert wasteland,
because of the violence done to the people of Judah(ar)
in whose land they shed innocent blood.
20 But Judah will be inhabited forever,(as)
and Jerusalem from generation to generation.
21 I will pardon their bloodguilt,[f](at)
which I have not pardoned,
for the
Lord
dwells in Zion.
1 Corinthians 3
Chapter 3
The Problem of Immaturity
1 Brothers, I was not able to speak to you as spiritual people but as people of the flesh, as babies in Christ.(a) 2 I gave you milk to drink, not solid food, because you were not yet ready for it. In fact, you are still not ready, 3 because you are still fleshly. For since there is envy(b) and strife[a](c) among you, are you not fleshly and living like unbelievers?[b] 4 For whenever someone says, "I'm with Paul," and another, "I'm with Apollos,"(d) are you not unspiritual people?[c][d]
The Role of God's Servants
5 What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, and each has the role the Lord has given. 6 I planted,(e) Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 7 So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 8 Now the one planting and the one watering are one in purpose, and each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. 9 For we are God's coworkers.[e] You are God's field, God's building.(f) 10 According to God's grace that was given to me, I have laid a foundation as a skilled master builder, and another builds on it. But each one must be careful how he builds on it. 11 For no one can lay any other foundation(g) than what has been laid down. That foundation is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on that foundation with gold, silver,(h) costly stones,(i) wood, hay, or straw, 13 each one's work will become obvious, for the day[f] will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire;(j) the fire will test the quality of each one's work.(k) 14 If anyone's work that he has built survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned up, it will be lost, but he will be saved;(l) yet it will be like an escape through fire.[g](m)
16 Don't you yourselves know that you are God's sanctuary(n) and that the Spirit of God lives in you?(o) 17 If anyone destroys God's sanctuary, God will destroy him;(p) for God's sanctuary is holy,(q) and that is what you are.
The Folly of Human Wisdom
18 No one should deceive(r) himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age,(s) he must become foolish(t) so that he can become wise.(u) 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness(v) with God, since it is written:(w) He catches the wise in their craftiness ;(x)[h] 20 and again, The Lord knows that the reasonings (y) of the wise are meaningless. (z)[i] 21 So no one should boast in human leaders, for everything is yours(aa)— 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas(ab) or the world or life(ac) or death(ad) or things present or things to come(ae)—everything is yours, 23 and you belong to Christ,(af) and Christ belongs to God.
