1 Samuel 2:11-36
Chapter 2
11 Then Elkanah went to his home at (C1)Ramah. (C2)But the boy continued to attend to the service of the LORD before Eli the priest.
The Sin of Eli's Sons
12 Now the sons of Eli were (F1)(C1)useless men; they did not know the LORD.13 (C1)And this was the custom of the priests with the people: when anyone was offering a sacrifice, the priest's servant would come while the meat was cooking, with a three-pronged fork in his hand.14 And he would thrust it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; everything that the fork brought up, the priest would take for himself. They did so in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.15 Also, before (C1)they (F1)burned the fat, the priest's servant would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, "Give the priest meat for roasting, as he will not take cooked meat from you, only raw."16 And if the man said to him, "They must (F1)burn the fat (F2)first, then take as much as (F3)you desire," then he would say, "No, but you must give it to me now; and if not, I am taking it by force!"17 And so the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD, for the men (C1)treated the offering of the LORD disrespectfully.
Samuel before the LORD as a Boy
18 Now (C1)Samuel was ministering before the LORD, as a boy (C2)wearing a linen ephod.19 And his mother would make for him a little (C1)robe and bring it up to him from year to year when she would come up with her husband to offer (C2)the yearly sacrifice.20 Then Eli would (C1)bless Elkanah and his wife, and say, "May the LORD give you (F1)children from this woman in place of the (F2)one she (C2)requested of the LORD." And they went to their own (F3)home.
21 (F1)(C1)The LORD indeed visited Hannah, and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. And (C2)the boy Samuel grew up (F2)before the LORD.
Eli Rebukes His Sons
22 Now Eli was very old; and he heard about (C1)everything that his sons were doing to all Israel, and that they slept with (C2)the women who served at the doorway of the tent of meeting.23 So he said to them, "Why are you doing such things as these, the evil things that I hear from all these people?24 "No, my sons; for the report is not good (C1)which I hear the LORD'S people circulating.25 "If one person sins against another, (C1)God will mediate for him; but (C2)if a person sins against the LORD, who can intercede for him?" But they would not listen to the voice of their father, for the (C3)LORD desired to put them to death.
26 Now the boy (C1)Samuel was continuing to grow and to be in favor both with the LORD and with people.
27 Then (C1)a man of God came to Eli and said to him, "This is what the LORD says: '(C2)Did I not indeed reveal Myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh's house?28 '(C1)Did I not choose them from all the tribes of Israel to be My priests, to go up to My altar, to burn incense, to carry an ephod before Me? And did I not (C2)give to the house of your father all the fire offerings of the sons of Israel?29 'Why are you (F1)(C1)showing contempt for My sacrifice and My offering (C2)which I have commanded for My (C3)dwelling, and why are you (C4)honoring your sons above Me, by making yourselves fat with the (F2)choicest of every offering of My people Israel?'30 "Therefore the LORD God of Israel declares, '(C1)I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father was to walk before Me forever'; but now the LORD declares, 'Far be it from Me—for (C2)those who honor Me I will honor, and those (C3)who despise Me will be insignificant.31 'Behold, (C1)the days are coming when I will eliminate your (F1)strength and the (F1)strength of your father's house, so that there will not be an old man in your house.32 'And you will look at (C1)the distress of My dwelling, in spite of all the good that (F1)I do for Israel; and there will never be an (C2)old man in your house.33 'Yet I will not cut off every man of yours from My altar, (F1)so that your eyes will fail from weeping and your soul grieve, and all the (F2)increase of your house will die (F3)in the prime of life.34 'And this will be (C1)the sign to you which will come in regard to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas: (C2)on the same day both of them will die.35 'But (C1)I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and My soul; and (C2)I will build him an enduring house, and he will walk before (C3)My anointed always.36 'And everyone who is left in your house will come to bow down to him for a (F1)silver coin or a loaf of bread and say, "Please (F2)assign me to one of the priest's offices so that I may eat a piece of bread."'"

Chapter 50
God, the Judge of the Righteous and the Wicked.
1 (C1)The Mighty One, God, the LORD, has spoken
And summoned the earth, (C2)from (F1)the rising of the sun to its setting.
2 Out of Zion, (C1)the perfection of beauty,
God (C2)has shone.
3 May our God (C1)come and not keep silent;
(C2)Fire devours before Him,
And a storm is violently (C3)raging around Him.
4 He (C1)summons the heavens above,
And the earth, to judge His people:
5 "Gather My (C1)godly ones to Me,
Those who have made a (C2)covenant with Me by (C3)sacrifice."
6 And the (C1)heavens declare His righteousness,
For (C2)God Himself is judge. Selah
7 "(C1)Hear, My people, and I will speak;
Israel, I will testify (F1)against you;
I am God, (C2)your God.
8 "I do (C1)not rebuke you for your sacrifices,
And your burnt offerings are continually before Me.
9 "I will not take a (C1)bull from your house,
Nor male goats from your folds.
10 "For (C1)every animal of the forest is Mine,
The cattle on a thousand hills.
11 "I know every (C1)bird of the mountains,
And everything that moves in the field is (F1)Mine.
12 "If I were hungry I would not tell you,
For the (C1)world is Mine, and (F1)everything it contains.
13 "Shall I eat the flesh of (F1)(C1)bulls
Or drink the blood of male goats?
14 "Offer God (C1)a sacrifice of thanksgiving
And (C2)pay your vows to the Most High;
15 (C1)Call upon Me on the day of trouble;
I will (C2)rescue you, and you will (C3)honor Me."
16 But to the wicked God says,
"What right do you have to tell of My statutes
And to take (C1)My covenant in your mouth?
17 "For you yourself (C1)hate discipline,
And you (C2)throw My words behind you.
18 "When you see a thief, you (C1)become friends with him,
And (F1)you (C2)associate with adulterers.
19 "You (F1)(C1)let your mouth loose in evil,
And your (C2)tongue harnesses deceit.
20 "You sit and (C1)speak against your brother;
You slander your own mother's son.
21 "These things you have done and (C1)I kept silent;
You thought that I was just like you;
I will (C2)rebuke you and present the case before your eyes.
22 "Now consider this, you who (C1)forget God,
Or I will (C2)tear you in pieces, and there will be no one to save you.
23 "He who (C1)offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me;
And to him who (C2)sets his way properly
I will (C3)show the salvation of God."
Acts 27:1-12
Chapter 27
Paul Is Sent to Rome
1 Now when it was decided that (C1)we (C2)would sail for (C3)Italy, they proceeded to turn Paul and some other prisoners over to a centurion of the Augustan (F1)(C4)cohort, named Julius.2 And we boarded an Adramyttian ship that was about to sail to the regions along the coast of (F1)(C1)Asia, and put out to sea accompanied by (C2)Aristarchus, a (C3)Macedonian of (C4)Thessalonica.3 The next day we put in at (C1)Sidon; and Julius (C2)treated Paul with consideration and (C3)allowed him to go to his friends and receive care.4 From there we put out to sea and sailed under the shelter of (C1)Cyprus, because (C2)the winds were contrary.5 When we had sailed through the sea along the coast of (C1)Cilicia and (C2)Pamphylia, we landed at Myra in Lycia.6 There the centurion found an (C1)Alexandrian ship sailing for (C2)Italy, and he put us aboard it.7 When we had sailed slowly for a good many days, and with difficulty had arrived off Cnidus, (C1)since the wind did not permit us to go farther, we sailed under the shelter of (C2)Crete, off Salmone;8 and with difficulty (C1)sailing past it, we came to a place called Fair Havens, near which was the city of Lasea.
9 When considerable time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous, since even (C1)the (F1)fast was already over, Paul started admonishing them,10 saying to them, "Men, I perceive that the voyage will certainly be with (C1)damage and great loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives."11 But the centurion was more persuaded by the (C1)pilot and the (F1)captain of the ship than by what was being said by Paul.12 The harbor was not suitable for wintering, so the majority reached a decision to put out to sea from there, if somehow they could reach Phoenix, a harbor of (C1)Crete facing southwest and northwest, and spend the winter there.<
