Deuteronomy 15-16
Chapter 15
The Sabbatical Year
1 "(C1)At the end of every seven years you shall (F1)grant a release of debts.2 "And this is the regulation for the release of debts: every creditor is to forgive what he has loaned to his neighbor; he shall not require it of his neighbor and his brother, because the LORD'S release has been proclaimed.3 "(C1)From a foreigner you may require it, but your hand shall (F1)forgive whatever of yours is with your brother.4 "However, there will be no poor among you, since (C1)the LORD will certainly bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess,5 if only you listen obediently to the voice of the LORD your God, to (F1)follow carefully all this commandment which I am commanding you today.6 "(C1)For the LORD your God will have blessed you just as He has promised you, and you will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow; and you will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over you.
7 "If there is (C1)a poor person among you, one of your brothers, in any of your (F1)towns in your land which the LORD your God is giving you, (C2)you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand from your poor brother;8 but (C1)you shall fully open your hand to him, and generously lend him enough for his need in whatever he lacks.9 "Be careful that there is no mean-spirited (F1)thought in your heart, (F2)such as, '(C1)The seventh year, the year of release of debts, is near,' and (C2)your eye is malicious toward your poor brother, and you give him nothing; then he (C3)may cry out to the LORD against you, and it will be a sin in you.10 "You shall generously give to him, and your heart shall not be (F1)grudging when you give to him, because (C1)for this thing the LORD your God will bless you in all your work, and in all (F2)your undertakings.11 "(C1)For the poor will not cease (F1)to exist in the land; therefore I am commanding you, saying, 'You shall fully open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land.'
12 "(C1)If your fellow countryman, a Hebrew man or woman, is sold to you, then he shall serve you for six years, but in the seventh year you shall set him (F1)free.13 "And when you set him (F1)free, you shall not send him away empty-handed.14 "You shall give generously to him from your flock, your threshing floor, and from your wine vat; you shall give to him as the LORD your God has blessed you.15 "And you are to remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God redeemed you; therefore I am commanding (F1)this of you today.16 "But it shall come about, (C1)if he says to you, 'I will not leave you,' because he loves you and your household, since he is doing well with you,17 then you shall take an (F1)awl and pierce it through his ear into the door, and he shall be your servant permanently. You shall also do the same to your female slave.
18 "It shall not seem difficult for you when you set him (F1)free, because he has given you six years with double the (F2)service of a hired worker; so the LORD your God will bless you in whatever you do.
19 "(C1)You shall consecrate to the LORD your God all the firstborn males that are born in your herd and in your flock; you shall not work with the firstborn of your herd, nor shear the firstborn of your flock.20 "(C1)You and your household shall eat it every year before the LORD your God in the place which the LORD chooses.21 "(C1)But if it has any impairment, such as a limp, or blindness, or any serious impairment, you shall not sacrifice it to the LORD your God.22 "You shall eat it within your gates; (C1)the unclean and the clean alike may eat it, as (C1)a gazelle or a deer.23 "Only (C1)you shall not eat its blood; you are to pour it out on the ground like water.
Chapter 16
The Feasts of Passover, of Weeks, and of Booths
1 "Observe (C1)the month of Abib and (F1)(C2)celebrate the Passover to the LORD your God, for in the month of Abib the LORD your God brought you out of Egypt by night.2 "You shall sacrifice the Passover to the LORD your God from the flock and the herd, in the place where the LORD chooses to establish His name.3 "(C1)You shall not eat leavened bread with it; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread with it, the bread of affliction (for you came out of the land of Egypt in a hurry), so that you will remember the day when you came out of the land of Egypt (C2)all the days of your life.4 "For seven days no leaven shall be seen with you in your entire territory, and (C1)none of the meat which you sacrifice on the evening of the first day shall be left overnight until the morning.5 "You are not allowed to sacrifice the Passover in any of your (F1)towns which the LORD your God is giving you;6 but only (C1)at the place where the LORD your God chooses to establish His name, you shall sacrifice the Passover in the evening at sunset, at the time that you came out of Egypt.7 "You shall (C1)cook and eat it in the place which the LORD your God chooses. In the morning you are to return to your tents.8 "For six days you shall eat unleavened bread, and (C1)on the seventh day there shall be (C2)a festive assembly to the LORD your God; you shall do no work on it.
9 "(C1)You shall count seven weeks for yourself; you shall begin to count seven weeks from the time you begin to put the sickle to the standing grain.10 "Then you shall (F1)celebrate the Feast of Weeks to the LORD your God with a (F2)voluntary offering of your hand in a proportional amount, which you shall give just as the LORD your God blesses you;11 and you shall (C1)rejoice before the LORD your God, you, your son and your daughter, and your male and female slaves, and (C2)the Levite who is in your (F1)town, and (C3)the stranger, the (F2)orphan, and the widow who are in your midst, at the place where the LORD your God chooses to establish His name.12 "(C1)You shall also remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and you shall be careful and (F1)comply with these statutes.
13 "(C1)You shall (F1)celebrate the Feast of (F2)Booths for seven days when you have gathered in from your threshing floor and your wine vat;14 and you shall (C1)rejoice in your feast, you, your son and your daughter, and your male and female slaves, and the Levite, the stranger, the (F1)orphan, and the widow who are in your (F2)towns.15 "For seven days you shall celebrate a feast to the LORD your God in the place which the LORD chooses, because the LORD your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you will be altogether joyful.
16 "(C1)Three times a year all your males shall appear before the LORD your God at the place which He chooses: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, at the Feast of Weeks, and at the Feast of Booths; and (C2)they are not to appear before the LORD empty-handed.17 "Everyone (F1)shall give as he is able, in accordance with the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you.
18 "You shall appoint for yourself judges and officers in all your (F1)towns which the LORD your God is giving you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.19 "(C1)You shall not distort justice, (C2)you shall not (F1)show partiality; and (C3)you shall not accept a bribe, because a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and distorts the words of the righteous.20 "Justice, and only justice, you shall pursue, so that (C1)you may live and possess the land which the LORD your God is giving you.
21 "(C1)You shall not plant for yourself an (F1)Asherah of any kind of tree beside the altar of the LORD your God, which you shall make for yourself.22 "And (C1)you shall not set up for yourself a memorial stone, which the LORD your God hates.
Job 11
Chapter 11
Zophar Rebukes Job
1 Then Zophar the Naamathite responded,
2 "Shall a multitude of words go unanswered,
And a (C1)talkative man be acquitted?
3 "Shall your boasts silence people?
And will you (C1)scoff, and no one rebuke?
4 "For (C1)you have said, 'My teaching is pure,
And (C2)I am innocent in your eyes.'
5 "But if only God would speak,
And open His lips against you,
6 And show you the secrets of wisdom!
For sound wisdom (F1)(C1)has two sides.
Know then that God (F2)forgets part of (C2)your guilt.
7 "(C1)Can you discover the depths of God?
Can you discover the limits of the Almighty?
8 "They are as (C1)high as (F1)the heavens; what can you do?
Deeper than (F2)(C2)Sheol; what can you know?
9 "Its measurement is longer than the earth
And broader than the sea.
10 "If He passes by or apprehends people,
Or calls an assembly, (C1)who can restrain Him?
11 "For (C1)He knows false people,
And He (C2)sees injustice (F1)without investigating.
12 "(F1)(C1)An idiot will become intelligent
When a (C2)wild donkey is born a human.
13 "(C1)If you would (C2)direct your heart rightly
And (C3)spread out your hands to Him,
14 If wrongdoing is in your hand, (C1)put it far away,
And do not let malice dwell in your tents;
15 Then, indeed, you could (C1)lift up your face without moral blemish,
And you would be firmly established and (C2)not fear.
16 "For you would (C1)forget your trouble;
Like (C2)waters that have passed by, you would remember it.
17 "Your (F1)life would (F2)be (C1)brighter than noonday;
Darkness would be like the morning.
18 "Then you would trust, because there is hope;
And you would look around and rest securely.
19 "You would (C1)lie down and none would disturb you,
And many would (F1)(C2)flatter you.
20 "But the (C1)eyes of the wicked will fail,
And (F1)there will (C2)be no escape for them;
And their (C3)hope is (F2)(C4)to breathe their last."
Acts 2:14-47
Chapter 2
14 But Peter, taking his stand with (C1)the other eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: "Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, (F1)know this, and pay attention to my words.15 "For these people are not drunk, as you assume, (C1)since it is only the (F1)third hour of the day;16 but this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:
17 '(C1)AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says,
'THAT I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT ON ALL (F1)MANKIND;
AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS WILL PROPHESY,
AND YOUR YOUNG MEN WILL SEE VISIONS,
AND YOUR OLD MEN WILL (F2)HAVE DREAMS;
18 AND EVEN ON MY MALE AND FEMALE (F1)SERVANTS
I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT IN THOSE DAYS,
And they will prophesy.
19 'AND I WILL (F1)DISPLAY WONDERS IN THE SKY ABOVE
AND SIGNS ON THE EARTH BELOW,
BLOOD, FIRE, AND (F2)VAPOR OF SMOKE.
20 'THE SUN WILL BE TURNED INTO DARKNESS
AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD,
BEFORE THE GREAT AND GLORIOUS DAY OF THE LORD COMES.
21 'AND IT SHALL BE THAT (C1)EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.'
22 "Men of Israel, listen to these words: (C1)Jesus the Nazarene, (C2)a Man (F1)attested to you by God with (F2)miracles and (C3)wonders and (F3)signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know—23 this Man, delivered over by the (C1)predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, (C2)you nailed to a cross by the hands of (F1)godless men and put Him to death.24 "(F1)But (C1)God raised Him from the dead, putting an end to the (F2)agony of death, since it (C2)was impossible for Him to be held (F3)in its power.25 "For David says of Him,
'(C1)I SAW THE LORD CONTINUALLY BEFORE ME,
BECAUSE HE IS AT MY RIGHT HAND, SO THAT I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN.
26 'THEREFORE MY HEART WAS GLAD AND MY TONGUE WAS OVERJOYED;
MOREOVER MY FLESH ALSO WILL LIVE IN HOPE;
27 FOR YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO (C1)HADES,
(C2)NOR WILL YOU (F1)ALLOW YOUR (F2)HOLY ONE TO (F3)UNDERGO DECAY.
28 'YOU HAVE MADE KNOWN TO ME THE WAYS OF LIFE;
YOU WILL MAKE ME FULL OF GLADNESS WITH YOUR PRESENCE.'
29 "(F1)Brothers, I may confidently say to you regarding the (C1)patriarch David that he both (C2)died and (C3)was buried, and (C4)his tomb is (F2)with us to this day.30 "So because he was (C1)a prophet and knew that (C2)God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one (F1)of his descendants on his throne,31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the (F1)Christ, that (C1)He was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh (F2)suffer decay.32 "It is this Jesus whom (C1)God raised up, (F1)a fact to which we are all (C2)witnesses.33 "Therefore, (F1)since He has been exalted (F2)(C1)at the right hand of God, and (C2)has received (C3)the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, He has (C4)poured out this which you both see and hear.34 "For it was not David who ascended into (F1)heaven, but he himself says:
'(C1)THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD,
"SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,
35 UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET."'
36 "Therefore let all the (C1)house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both (C2)Lord and (F1)Christ—this Jesus (C3)whom you crucified."37 Now when they heard this, they were (F1)pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "(F2)Brothers, (C1)what are we to do?"38 Peter said to them, "(C1)Repent, and each of you be (C2)baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.39 "For (C1)the promise is for you and your children and for all who are (C2)far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself."40 And with many other words he solemnly (C1)testified and kept on urging them, saying, "(F1)Be saved from this (C2)perverse generation!"41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand (F1)(C1)souls.42 They were (C1)continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to (C2)the breaking of bread and (C1)to (F1)prayer.
43 (F1)Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many (C1)wonders and (F2)signs were taking place through the apostles.44 And all the believers (F1)were together and (C1)had all things in common;45 and they (C1)would sell their property and possessions and share them with all, to the extent that anyone had need.46 (C1)Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and (C2)breaking bread (F1)from house to house, they were taking their (F2)meals together with gladness and (F3)sincerity of heart,47 praising God and (C1)having favor with all the people. And the Lord (C2)was adding to (F1)their number day by day (C3)those who were being saved.
