Deuteronomy 30,31

Restoration Promised

1 "So it will be when all of these things have come upon you, (C1)the blessing and the curse which I have placed before you, and you (F1)call them to mind (C2)in all the nations where the LORD your God has scattered you,2 and you (C1)return to the LORD your God and (F1)obey Him (C2)with all your heart and soul in accordance with everything that I am commanding you today, you and your sons,3 then the LORD your God will (C1)restore (F1)you from captivity, and have compassion on you, and (C2)will gather you again from all the peoples where the LORD your God has (C3)scattered you.4 "If any of your scattered countrymen are at the (F1)ends of the earth, (C1)from there the LORD your God will gather you, and from there He will (F2)bring you back.5 "(C1)The LORD your God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; and He will be good to you and (C2)make you more numerous than your fathers.

6 "Moreover, (C1)the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the hearts of your (F1)descendants, (C2)to love the LORD your God with all your heart and all your soul, so that you may live.7 "(C1)And the LORD your God will (F1)inflict all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who persecuted you.8 "And you will again (F1)obey the LORD, and (F2)follow all His commandments which I am commanding you today.9 "(C1)Then the LORD your God will prosper you (F1)abundantly in every work of your hand, in the (F2)children of your womb, the (F2)offspring of your cattle, and in the (F2)produce of your ground, for (C2)the LORD will again rejoice over you for good, just as He rejoiced over your fathers;10 (F1)if you (F2)obey the LORD your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which (C1)are written in this Book of the Law, (F1)if you turn to the LORD your God (C2)with all your heart and soul.

11 "For this commandment which I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it far away.12 "It is not in heaven, (F1)that you could say, '(C1)Who will go up to heaven for us and get it for us, and proclaim it to us, so that we may (F2)follow it?'13 "Nor is it beyond the sea, (F1)that you could say, 'Who will cross the sea for us and get it for us and proclaim it to us, so that we may (F2)follow it?'14 "On the contrary, the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may (F1)follow it.

Choose Life

15 "See, (C1)I have placed before you today life and (F1)happiness, and death and (F2)adversity,16 in that I am commanding you today (C1)to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, so that you (C2)may live and become numerous, and that the LORD your God may bless you in the land where you are entering to take possession of it.17 "But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but allow yourself to be led astray and you worship other gods and serve them,18 I declare to you today that (C1)you will certainly perish. You will not prolong your days in the land where you are crossing the Jordan to enter (F1)and take possession of it.19 "(C1)I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have placed before you life and death, (C2)the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your (F1)descendants,20 (C1)by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and (C2)by holding close to Him; (C3)for (F1)this is your life and the length of your days, (F2)so that you may live in (C4)the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them."

Moses' Last Counsel

1 So Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel.2 And he said to them, "I am (C1)120 years old today; (C2)I am no longer able to (F1)go out and come in, and the LORD has told me, '(C3)You shall not cross this Jordan.'3 "(C1)It is the LORD your God who is going to cross ahead of you; He Himself will destroy these nations before you, and you shall dispossess them. (C2)Joshua is the one who is going to cross ahead of you, just as the LORD has spoken.4 "And the LORD will do to them just as He did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their land, when He destroyed them.5 "(C1)The LORD will turn them over to you, and you will do to them in accordance with all the commandments which I have commanded you.6 "(C1)Be strong and courageous, (C2)do not be afraid or in dread of them, for (C3)the LORD your God is the One who is going with you. (C4)He will not desert you or abandon you."

7 Then Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, "(C1)Be strong and courageous, for you will go with this people into the land which the LORD has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you will give it to them as an inheritance.8 "And (C1)the LORD is the One who is going ahead of you; He will be with you. (C2)He will not desert you or abandon you. Do not fear and do not be dismayed."

9 So Moses wrote this Law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi (C1)who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and to all the elders of Israel.10 Then Moses commanded them, saying, "At the end of every seven years, at the time of (C1)the year of the release of debts, at the (C2)Feast of Booths,11 when all Israel comes (C1)to appear before the LORD your God at (C2)the place which He will choose, (C3)you shall read this Law before all Israel (F1)so that they hear it.12 "Assemble the people, the men, the women, the children, and the stranger who is in your (F1)town, so that they may hear and (C1)learn and fear the LORD your God, and be careful to (F2)follow all the words of this Law.13 "And their children, who have not known, will hear and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as you live on the land (F1)which you are about to cross the Jordan to (F2)possess."

Israel Will Fall Away

14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, (F1)(C1)the time for you to die is near; call Joshua and present yourselves at the tent of meeting, and I will commission him." (C2)So Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves at the tent of meeting.15 (C1)And the LORD appeared in the tent in a pillar of cloud, and the pillar of cloud stood at the entrance of the tent.16 The LORD said to Moses, "Behold, (C1)you are about to (F1)lie down with your fathers; and (C2)this people will arise and play the prostitute with the foreign gods of the land into the midst of which they are going, and (C3)they will abandon Me and break My covenant which I have made with them.17 "(C1)Then My anger will be kindled against them on that day, and (C2)I will abandon them and (C3)hide My face from them, and they will be consumed, and many evils and troubles will find them; so they will say on that day, '(C4)Is it not because our God is not among us that these evils have found us?'18 "But I will assuredly hide My face on that day because of all the evil that they will have done, for they will have turned away to other gods.

19 "Now then, (C1)write this song for yourselves, and teach it to the sons of Israel; put it (F1)on their lips, so that this song may be a witness for Me against the sons of Israel.20 "(C1)For when I bring them into the land flowing with milk and honey, which I swore to their fathers, and they eat and are satisfied and (C2)become (F1)prosperous, then they will turn to other gods and serve them, and spurn Me and break My covenant.21 "Then it will come about, (C1)when many evils and troubles find them, that this song will testify before them as a witness (for it shall not be forgotten from the mouth of their (F1)descendants); for (C2)I know their inclination which they are (F2)developing today, before I bring them into the land which I swore."22 (C1)So Moses wrote down this song on the same day, and taught it to the sons of Israel.

Joshua Is Commissioned

23 (C1)Then He commissioned Joshua the son of Nun, and said, "(C2)Be strong and courageous, for you will bring the sons of Israel into the land which I swore to them, and (C3)I will be with you."

24 It came about, when Moses finished writing the words of this Law in a book until they were complete,25 that Moses commanded the Levites (C1)who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying,26 "Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, so that it may (F1)remain there as a witness against you.27 "For I know (C1)your rebellion and (C2)your (F1)stubbornness; behold, as long as I have been alive with you until today, you have been rebellious against the LORD; how much more, then, after my death?28 "Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your officers, that I may speak these words in their hearing and (C1)call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against them.29 "For I know that after my death you will (C1)behave very corruptly and turn from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will confront you in the latter days, because you will do that which is evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking Him to anger with the work of your hands."

30 Then Moses spoke in the hearing of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song, until they were complete:

Luke 8:1-25

Chapter 8

Women Support Jesus

1 Soon afterward, (F1)Jesus began going around from one city and village to another, (C1)proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God. The twelve were with Him,2 and also (C1)some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: (C2)Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,3 and Joanna the wife of Chuza, (C1)Herod's (C2)steward, and Susanna, and many others who were contributing to their support out of their private means.

Parable of the Sower

4 (C1)Now when a large crowd was coming together, and those from the various cities were journeying to Him, He spoke by way of a parable:5 "The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and it was trampled underfoot, and the birds of the sky ate it up.6 "Other seed fell on rocky soil, and when it came up, it withered away because it had no moisture.7 "Other seed fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew up with it and choked it out.8 "And yet other seed fell into the good soil, and grew up, and produced a crop a hundred times as much." As He said these things, He would call out, "(C1)The one who has ears to hear, (F1)let him hear."

9 (C1)Now His disciples began asking Him what this parable (F1)meant.10 And He said, "(C1)To you it has been granted to know the (F1)mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest they are told in parables, so that (F2)(C2)while seeing they may not see, and (F3)while hearing they may not understand.

11 "Now this is the parable: (C1)the seed is the word of God.12 "And those beside the road are the ones who have heard, then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they will not believe and be saved.13 "Those on the rocky soil are the ones who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and yet these do not have a firm root; (F1)they believe for a while, and in a time of temptation they (F2)fall away.14 "And the seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked by worries, riches, and pleasures of this life, and they bring no fruit to maturity.15 "But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word (F1)with a good and virtuous heart, and hold it firmly, and produce fruit with (F2)perseverance.

Parable of the Lamp

16 "Now (C1)no one lights a lamp and covers it over with a container, or puts it under a bed; but he puts it on a lampstand so that those who come in may see the light.17 "(C1)For nothing is concealed that will not become evident, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.18 "So take care how you listen; (C1)for whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he (F1)thinks he has will be taken away from him."

19 (C1)Now His mother and brothers came to Him, and they were unable to get to Him because of the crowd.20 And it was reported to Him, "Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, wishing to see You."21 But He answered and said to them, "My mother and My brothers are these (C1)who hear the word of God and do it."

Jesus Stills the Sea

22 (C1)Now on one of those days (F1)Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, "Let's cross over to the other side of (C2)the lake." So they launched out.23 But as they were sailing along He fell asleep; and a fierce gale of wind descended on (C1)the lake, and they began to be swamped and to be in danger.24 They came up to Jesus and woke Him, saying, "(C1)Master, Master, we are perishing!" And He got up and (C2)rebuked the wind and the surging (F1)waves, and they stopped, and (F2)it became calm.25 And He said to them, "Where is your faith?" But they were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, "Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?"<
