Leviticus 17,18
Blood for Atonement
1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,2 "Speak to Aaron and to his sons and to all the sons of Israel, and say to them, 'This is what the LORD has commanded, saying,3 "Anyone from the house of Israel who slaughters an ox, a lamb, or a goat in the camp, or slaughters it outside the camp,4 and (C1)has not brought it to the doorway of the tent of meeting to present it as an offering to the LORD in front of the (F1)tabernacle of the LORD, bloodshed is to be counted against that person. He has shed blood, and that person shall be cut off from among his people.5 "This shall be done so that the sons of Israel will bring their sacrifices which they were sacrificing (F1)in the open field—so that they will bring them to the LORD at the doorway of the tent of meeting to the priest, and sacrifice them as sacrifices of peace offerings to the LORD.6 "The priest shall sprinkle the blood on the altar of the LORD at the doorway of the tent of meeting, and (C1)offer up the fat in smoke as a soothing aroma to the LORD.7 "And (C1)they shall no longer offer their sacrifices to the (F1)goat demons with which they play the prostitute. This shall be a permanent statute to them throughout their generations."'
8 "Then you shall say to them, 'Anyone from the house of Israel, or from the strangers who reside among them, who offers a burnt offering or sacrifice,9 and (C1)does not bring it to the doorway of the tent of meeting to (F1)offer it to the LORD, that person also shall be cut off from his people.
10 '(C1)And anyone from the house of Israel, or from the strangers who reside among them, who eats any blood, (C2)I will set My face against that person who eats the blood, and will cut him off from among his people.11 'For (C1)the (F1)life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for (C2)it is the blood by reason of the (F1)life that makes atonement.'12 "Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, 'No person among you may eat blood, nor may any stranger who resides among you eat blood.'13 "So when anyone from the sons of Israel, or from the strangers who reside among them, (F1)while hunting catches an animal or a bird which may be eaten, (C1)he shall pour out its blood and cover it with dirt.
14 "(C1)For as for the (F1)life of all flesh, its blood is identified with its (F1)life. Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, 'You are not to eat the blood of any flesh, for the (F1)life of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off.'15 "And (C1)any person who eats an animal which dies or is torn by animals, whether he is a native or a stranger, shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and remain unclean until evening; then he will become clean.16 "But if he does not wash his clothes and bathe his body, then (C1)he shall bear the responsibility for his (F1)guilt."
Laws on Immoral Relations
1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,2 "Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, '(C1)I am the LORD your God.3 'You shall not do (F1)what is (C1)done in the land of Egypt where you lived, nor are you to do (F1)what is (C2)done in the land of Canaan where I am bringing you; you shall not walk in their statutes.4 'You are to perform My judgments and keep My statutes, (F1)to live in accord with them; (C1)I am the LORD your God.5 'So you shall keep My statutes and My judgments, (C1)which, if (F1)a person (F2)follows them, then he will live by them; I am the LORD.
6 'None of you shall approach any blood relative (F1)of his to uncover nakedness; I am the LORD.7 '(C1)You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, that is, the nakedness of your mother. She is your mother; you are not to uncover her nakedness.8 '(C1)You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's wife; it is your father's nakedness.9 'As for (C1)the nakedness of your sister, either your father's daughter or your mother's daughter, whether born in the household or born outside the household, you shall not uncover their nakedness.10 'The nakedness of your son's daughter or your daughter's daughter, their nakedness you shall not uncover; for (F1)their nakedness is yours.11 'The nakedness of your father's wife's daughter, born to your father, she is your sister; you shall not uncover her nakedness.12 '(C1)You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's sister; she is your father's blood relative.13 'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother's sister, for she is your mother's blood relative.14 '(C1)You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's brother. You shall not approach his wife; she is your aunt.15 '(C1)You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law. She is your son's wife; you shall not uncover her nakedness.16 '(C1)You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother's wife; it is your brother's nakedness.17 '(C1)You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and of her daughter, nor shall you take her son's daughter or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; they are blood relatives. It is an outrageous sin.18 'And you shall not (F1)marry a woman in addition to her sister (F2)as a second wife while she is alive, to uncover her nakedness.
19 '(C1)Also you shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness during her (C2)menstrual impurity.20 'And (C1)you shall not have sexual intercourse with your neighbor's wife, to be defiled with her.21 'You shall not give any of your children (C1)to (F1)offer them to Molech, nor shall you (C2)profane the name of your God; I am the LORD.22 '(C1)You shall not sleep with a male as (F1)one sleeps with a female; it is an abomination.23 '(C1)Also you shall not have sexual intercourse with any animal to be defiled with it, nor shall any woman stand before an animal to (F1)mate with it; it is a perversion.
24 'Do not defile yourselves by any of these things; for by all these things (C1)the nations which I am driving out from you have become defiled.25 'For the land has become defiled, (C1)therefore I have brought its punishment upon it, so the land (C2)has vomited out its inhabitants.26 'But as for you, you are to keep My statutes and My judgments, and you shall not do any of these abominations, neither the native, nor the stranger who resides among you27 (for the people of the land who were there before you did all these abominations, and the land has become defiled),28 so that the land will not vomit you out should you defile it, as it has vomited out the nation which was there before you.29 'For whoever does any of these abominations, those persons who do so shall be cut off from among their people.30 'So you are to keep (C1)your (F1)commitment to Me not to practice any of the abominable customs which have been practiced before you, so that you do not defile yourselves with them; (C2)I am the LORD your God.'"
Mark 9:1-29
Chapter 9
The Transfiguration
1 And Jesus was saying to them, "(C1)Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God when it has come with power."
2 (C1)And six days later Jesus (*)took with Him (C2)Peter, (F1)James, and John, and (*)brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was (F2)transfigured before them;3 and (C1)His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.4 And Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.5 Peter responded and (*)said to Jesus, "(C1)Rabbi, it is good that we are here; (C2)let's make three (F1)tabernacles, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."6 For he did not know how to reply; for they became terrified.7 Then a cloud (F1)formed, overshadowing them, and (C1)a voice (F1)came out of the cloud: "(C2)This is My beloved Son; (F2)listen to Him!"8 And suddenly they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone.
9 (C1)As they were coming down from the mountain, He (C2)gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, (F1)until the Son of Man rose from the dead.10 They (F1)seized upon (F2)that statement, discussing with one another (F3)what rising from the dead meant.11 And they asked Him, saying, "Why is it that the scribes say that (C1)Elijah must come first?"12 And He said to them, "Elijah does come first and he restores all things. And yet how is it written of (C1)the Son of Man that (C2)He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?13 "But I say to you that Elijah has (F1)indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written of him."
All Things Possible
14 (C1)And when they came back to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them.15 Immediately, when the entire crowd saw Him, they were (C1)amazed and began running up to greet Him.16 And He asked them, "What are you disputing with them?"17 And one person from the crowd answered Him, "Teacher, I brought You my son, because he has a spirit that makes him unable to speak;18 and (F1)whenever it seizes him, it slams him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes stiff. And I told Your disciples so that they would cast it out, but they could not do it."19 And He answered them and (*)said, "O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!"20 And they brought (F1)the boy to Him. When he saw Him, the spirit immediately threw him into convulsions, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth.21 And He asked his father, "How long has this been happening to him?" And he said, "From childhood.22 "It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to kill him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!"23 But Jesus said to him, "'If You can'? (C1)All things are possible for the one who believes."24 Immediately the boy's father cried out and said, "I do believe; help my unbelief!"25 When Jesus saw that (C1)a crowd was (F1)rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You mute and deaf spirit, I (F2)command you, come out of him and do not enter him (F3)again!"26 And after crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, "He is dead!"27 But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him, and he got up.28 When He came (C1)into the house, His disciples began asking Him privately, "Why is it that we could not cast it out?"29 And He said to them, "This kind cannot come out by anything except prayer."<
