Exodus 3,4

The Burning Bush

1 Now Moses was pasturing the flock of his father-in-law (C1)Jethro, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the (F1)west side of the wilderness and came to (C2)Horeb, the (C3)mountain of God.2 Then (C1)the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of (F1)a (C2)bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not being consumed.3 So Moses said, "(C1)I must turn aside and see this (F1)marvelous sight, why the bush is not burning up!"4 When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, (C1)God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am."5 Then He said, "Do not come near here; (C1)remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground."6 And He said, "(C1)I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." (C2)Then Moses hid his face, for he was (C3)afraid to look at God.

7 And the LORD said, "I have certainly (C1)seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their outcry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings.8 "So I have come down (C1)to rescue them from the (F1)power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a (C2)good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of (C3)the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.9 "And now, behold, (C1)the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me; furthermore, I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them.

The Mission of Moses

10 "And now come, and I will send you to Pharaoh, (C1)so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt."11 But Moses said to God, "(C1)Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?"12 And He said, "Assuredly (C1)I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: (C2)when you have brought the people out of Egypt, (C3)you shall (F1)worship God at this mountain."

13 Then Moses said to God, "Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you.' Now they may say to me, 'What is His name?' What shall I say to them?"14 And God said to Moses, "(F1)(C1)I AM WHO (F1)I AM"; and He said, "This is what you shall say to the sons of Israel: '(F1)I AM has sent me to you.'"15 God furthermore said to Moses, "This is what you shall say to the sons of Israel: '(C1)The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is My name forever, and this is the (F1)(C2)name for (F2)all generations to use to call upon Me.16 "Go and (C1)gather the elders of Israel together and say to them, '(C2)The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has appeared to me, saying, "(F1)(C3)I am indeed concerned about you and what has been done to you in Egypt.17 "So (C1)I said, I will bring you up out of the oppression of Egypt to the land of (C2)the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, to a land (C3)flowing with milk and honey."'18 "Then (C1)they will (F1)pay attention to what you say; and (C2)you with the elders of Israel will come to the king of Egypt, and you will say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. So now, please let us go a (C3)three days' journey into the wilderness, so that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.'19 "But I know that the king of Egypt (C1)will not permit you to go, (C2)except (F1)under compulsion.20 "So I will reach out with (C1)My hand and strike Egypt with all My (C2)miracles which I shall do in the midst of it; and (C3)after that he will let you go.21 "I will grant this people (C1)favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be that when you go, you will not go empty-handed.22 "But every woman (C1)shall ask her neighbor and the woman who lives in her house for articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing; and you will put them on your sons and daughters. So you will (C2)plunder the Egyptians."

Moses Given Signs

1 Then Moses said, "What if they will not believe me or (C1)listen (F1)to what I say? For they may say, '(C2)The LORD has not appeared to you.'"2 The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" And he said, "(C1)A staff."3 Then He said, "Throw it on the ground." So he threw it on the ground, and (C1)it turned into a serpent; and Moses fled from it.4 But the LORD said to Moses, "Reach out with your hand and grasp it by its tail"—so he reached out with his hand and caught it, and it turned into a staff in his (F1)hand—5 "so that (C1)they may believe that (C2)the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you."

6 The LORD furthermore said to him, "Now put your hand inside the fold of your robe." So he put his hand inside the fold, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was (C1)leprous like snow.7 Then He said, "Put your hand inside the fold of your robe again." So he put his hand into the fold again, and when he took it out of the fold, behold, (C1)it was restored like the rest of his flesh.8 "So if they will not believe you nor (F1)pay attention to the (F2)evidence of the first (F3)sign, they may believe the (F2)evidence of the last (F3)sign.9 "But if they will not believe even these two (F1)signs nor pay attention to what you say, then you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground; and the water which you take from the Nile (C1)will turn into blood on the dry ground."

10 Then Moses said to the LORD, "Please, Lord, (C1)I have never been (F1)eloquent, neither (F2)recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am (F3)slow of speech and (F3)slow of tongue."11 But the LORD said to him, "Who has made the human mouth? Or (C1)who makes anyone unable to speak or deaf, or able to see or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?12 "Now then go, and (C1)I Myself will be with your mouth, and (C2)instruct you in what you are to say."13 But he said, "Please, Lord, now send the message by (F1)whomever You will."

Aaron to Be Moses' Mouthpiece

14 Then the anger of the LORD burned against Moses, and He said, "Is there not your brother Aaron the Levite? I know that (F1)he speaks fluently. And moreover, behold, (C1)he is coming out to meet you; when he sees you, he will be (F2)overjoyed.15 "So you are to speak to him and (C1)put the words in his mouth; and I Myself will be with your mouth and his mouth, and I will instruct you in what you are to do.16 "(C1)He shall speak for you to the people; and he will be as a mouth for you and you will be as God to him.17 "And you shall take in your hand (C1)this staff, (C2)with which you shall perform the signs."

18 Then Moses departed and returned to (C1)his father-in-law (F1)Jethro, and said to him, "Please, let me go, that I may return to my brothers who are in Egypt, and see if they are still alive." And Jethro said to Moses, "Go in peace."19 Now the LORD said to Moses in Midian, "Go (F1)back to Egypt, for (C1)all the men who were seeking your life are dead."20 So Moses took his wife and his (C1)sons and mounted them on a donkey, and returned to the land of Egypt. Moses also took the (C2)staff of God in his hand.

21 And the LORD said to Moses, "When you go (F1)back to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all (C1)the wonders which I have put in your (F2)power; but (C2)I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go.22 "Then you shall say to Pharaoh, 'This is what the LORD says: "(C1)Israel is My son, My firstborn.23 "So I said to you, '(C1)Let My son go so that he may serve Me'; but you have refused to let him go. Behold, (C2)I am going to kill your son, your firstborn."'"

24 But it came about at the overnight encampment on the way, that the LORD met (F1)Moses, and (C1)sought to put him to death.25 So Zipporah took (C1)a flint and cut off her son's foreskin and (F1)threw it at Moses' feet; and she said, "You are indeed a groom of blood to me!"26 So He left him alone. At that time she said, "You are a groom of blood"—(F1)because of the circumcision.

27 (C1)Now the LORD said to Aaron, "Go to meet Moses in the wilderness." So he went and met him at the (C2)mountain of God and kissed him.28 (C1)Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD with which He had sent him, and (C2)all the signs that He had commanded him to do.29 Then Moses and Aaron went and (C1)assembled all the elders of the sons of Israel;30 and (C1)Aaron spoke all the words which the LORD had spoken to Moses. He then performed the (C2)signs in the sight of the people.31 So (C1)the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD (F1)(C2)was concerned about the sons of Israel and that He had seen their affliction, (C3)they bowed low and worshiped.

Psalms 41

Chapter 41

The Psalmist in Sickness Complains of Enemies and False Friends.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

1 Blessed is one who (C1)considers the (F1)helpless;
The LORD will save him (C2)on a day of (F2)trouble.

2 The LORD will (C1)protect him and keep him alive,
And he will be called (F1)(C2)blessed upon the earth;
And (C3)do not turn him over to the desire of his enemies.

3 The LORD will sustain him upon his sickbed;
In his illness, You (F1)restore him to health.

4 As for me, I said, "LORD, be gracious to me;
(C1)Heal my soul, for (C2)I have sinned against You."

5 My enemies (C1)speak evil against me,
"When will he die, and his name perish?"

6 And (F1)when he comes to see me, he (C1)speaks (F2)empty words;
His heart gathers wickedness to itself;
When he goes outside, he tells it.

7 All who hate me whisper together against me;
They (C1)plot my harm against me, saying,

8 "A wicked thing is poured out (F1)upon him,
So that when he lies down, he will (C1)not get up again."

9 Even my (F1)(C1)close friend in whom I trusted,
Who ate my bread,
Has lifted up his heel against me.

10 But You, LORD, be gracious to me and (C1)raise me up,
That I may repay them.

11 By this I know that (C1)You are pleased with me,
Because (C2)my enemy does not shout in triumph over me.

12 As for me, (C1)You uphold me in my integrity,
And You place me (C2)in Your presence forever.

13 (C1)Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel,
From everlasting to everlasting.
Amen and Amen.

Hebrews 7

Chapter 7

Melchizedek's Priesthood like Christ's

1 For this (C1)Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the (C2)Most High God, who met Abraham as he was returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,2 to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth of all the spoils, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace.3 Without father, without mother, (C1)without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like (C2)the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually.

4 Now observe how great this man was to whom Abraham, the (C1)patriarch, (C2)gave a tenth of the choicest spoils.5 And those indeed of (C1)the sons of Levi who receive the priest's office have a commandment (F1)in the Law to collect (F2)a tenth from the people, that is, from their countrymen, although they (F3)are descended from Abraham.6 But the one (C1)whose genealogy is not traced from them (C2)collected (F1)a tenth from Abraham and (F2)(C2)blessed the one who (C3)had the promises.7 But without any dispute the lesser person is blessed by the greater.8 In this case mortal men receive tithes, but in that case one receives them, (C1)of whom it is witnessed that he lives on.9 And, so to speak, through Abraham even Levi, who received tithes, has paid tithes,10 for he was still in the loins of his (F1)forefather when Melchizedek met him.

11 (C1)So if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it (C2)the people received the Law), what further need was there for another priest to arise (C3)according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be designated according to the order of Aaron?12 For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also.13 For (C1)the one about whom (C2)these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar.14 For it is evident that our Lord (F1)was (C1)descended from Judah, a tribe with reference to which Moses said nothing concerning priests.15 And this is clearer still, if another priest arises according to the likeness of Melchizedek,16 who has become a priest not on the basis of a law of (F1)(C1)physical requirement, but according to the power of (C2)an indestructible life.17 For it is attested of Him,

"(C1)YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER
ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK."

18 For, on the one hand, there is the nullification of a former commandment (C1)because of its weakness and uselessness19 (for (C1)the Law made nothing perfect); on the other hand, there is the introduction of a better (C2)hope, through which we (C3)come near to God.20 And to the extent that it was not without an oath21 (for they indeed became priests without an oath, but He with an oath through the One who said to Him,

"(C1)THE LORD HAS SWORN
AND (C2)WILL NOT CHANGE HIS MIND,
'YOU ARE A PRIEST (C3)FOREVER'");

22 by the same extent Jesus also has become the (F1)(C1)guarantee of (C2)a better covenant.

23 (F1)The former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing;24 (F1)Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues (C1)forever, holds His priesthood permanently.25 Therefore He is also able to (C1)save (F1)forever those who (C2)come to God through Him, since He always lives to (C3)make intercession for them.

26 For it was fitting for us to have such a (C1)high priest, (C2)holy, (C3)innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and (C4)exalted above the heavens;27 who has no daily need, like those high priests, to (C1)offer up sacrifices, (C2)first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because He did this (C3)once for all time when He (C4)offered up Himself.28 For the Law appoints men as high priests (C1)who are weak, but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints (C2)a Son, who has been (C3)made perfect forever.
