Genesis 13,14
Abram and Lot
1 So Abram went up from Egypt to (C1)the (F1)Negev, he and his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot with him.
2 Now Abram was (C1)very rich in livestock, silver, and gold.3 And he went (F1)on his journeys from the (F2)Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, (C1)between Bethel and Ai,4 to the place of the (C1)altar which he had made there previously; and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.5 Now (C1)Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks, herds, and tents.6 And (C1)the land could not (F1)support both of them (F2)while living together, (C2)for their possessions were so great that they were not able to remain together.7 (C1)And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. Now (C2)the Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the land at that time.
8 (C1)So Abram said to Lot, "Please let there be no strife between you and me, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are relatives!9 "Is the entire land not before you? Please separate from me; if you choose the left, then I will go to the right; or if you choose the right, then I will go to the left."10 Lot raised his eyes and saw all the (F1)vicinity of the (C1)Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere—this was before the LORD (C2)destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like (C3)the garden of the LORD, (C4)like the land of Egypt (F2)going toward (C5)Zoar.11 So Lot chose for himself all the (F1)vicinity of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. So they separated from each other.12 Abram (F1)settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot (F1)settled in (C1)the cities of the (F2)vicinity of the Jordan, and moved his tents as far as Sodom.13 Now (C1)the men of Sodom were (F1)exceedingly wicked (C2)sinners against the LORD.
14 The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, "(C1)Now raise your eyes and look from the place where you are, (C2)northward and southward, and eastward and westward;15 (C1)for all the land which you see (C2)I will give to you and to your (F1)descendants forever.16 "I will make your (F1)descendants (C1)as plentiful as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can count the dust of the earth, then your (F1)descendants could also be counted.17 "Arise, (C1)walk about in the land through its length and width; for (C2)I will give it to you."18 Then Abram moved his tent and came and lived by the (F1)(C1)oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron; and there he built (C2)an altar to the LORD.
War of the Kings
1 And it came about in the days of Amraphel king of (C1)Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of (C2)Elam, and Tidal king of (F1)Goiim,2 that they made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of (C1)Admah, and Shemeber king of (C2)Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, (C3)Zoar).3 All these kings (F1)came as allies to (C1)the Valley of Siddim (that is, (C2)the Salt Sea).4 For twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.5 And in the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him came and (F1)defeated the (C1)Rephaim in (C2)Ashteroth-karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in (F2)(C3)Shaveh-kiriathaim,6 and the (C1)Horites on their Mount Seir, as far as (C2)El-paran, which is by the wilderness.7 Then they turned back and came to En-mishpat (that is, (C1)Kadesh), and (F1)conquered all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, who lived in (C2)Hazazon-tamar.8 And the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) came out; and they lined up for battle against them in (C1)the Valley of Siddim,9 against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of (F1)Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five.10 Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits; and (C1)the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and they fell (F1)into them. But those who survived fled to the (C2)hill country.11 Then they took all the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food supply, and departed.12 They also took Lot, (C1)Abram's nephew, and his possessions and departed, (C2)for he was living in Sodom.
13 Then (F1)a survivor came and told Abram the (C1)Hebrew. Now he was residing by the (F2)(C2)oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner, and they were (F3)(C3)allies with Abram.14 When Abram heard that (C1)his relative had been taken captive, he (F1)led out his trained men, (C2)born in his house, numbering 318, and went in pursuit as far as (C3)Dan.15 Then (C1)he divided (F1)his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and (F2)defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is (F3)north of (C2)Damascus.16 He (C1)brought back all the possessions, and also brought back (C2)his relative Lot with his possessions, and also the women, and the other people.
God's Promise to Abram
17 Then after his return from the (F1)defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, (C1)the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, (C2)the King's Valley).18 And (C1)Melchizedek the king of Salem brought out (C2)bread and wine; now he was a (C3)priest of (F1)God Most High.19 And he blessed him and said, "Blessed be Abram of (F1)God Most High,
(F2)(C1)Possessor of heaven and earth;
20 And blessed be (F1)God Most High,
Who has handed over your enemies to you."
And (C1)he gave him a tenth of everything.
Psalms 7
Chapter 7
The LORD Implored to Defend the Psalmist against the Wicked.
1 O LORD my God, (C1)in You I have taken refuge;
Save me from all those who pursue me, and (C2)rescue me,
2 Or he will tear (F1)my soul (C1)like a lion,
Dragging me away, while there is no one to rescue me.
3 O LORD my God, if I have done this,
If there is (C1)injustice in my hands,
4 If I have (C1)done evil to (F1)my friend,
Or have (C2)plundered (F2)my enemy for no reason,
5 Let the enemy pursue (F1)my soul and overtake (F2)it;
And let him trample my life to the ground
And lay my glory in the dust. Selah
6 (C1)Arise, LORD, in Your anger;
(C2)Raise Yourself against (C3)the rage of my enemies,
And (C4)stir Yourself (F1)for me; You have ordered judgment.
7 Let the assembly of the (C1)peoples encompass You,
And return on high over it.
8 The LORD (C1)judges the peoples;
(F1)(C2)Vindicate me, LORD, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me.
9 Please let (C1)the evil of the wicked come to an end, but (C2)establish the righteous;
For the righteous God (C3)puts hearts and (F1)minds to the test.
10 My (C1)shield is (F1)with God,
Who (C2)saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a (C1)righteous judge,
And a God who (C2)shows indignation every day.
12 If one (C1)does not repent, He will (C2)sharpen His sword;
He has (C3)bent His bow and taken aim.
13 He has also prepared deadly weapons for Himself;
He makes His (C1)arrows fiery shafts.
14 Behold, an evil person is pregnant with injustice,
And he (C1)conceives harm and gives birth to lies.
15 He has dug a pit and hollowed it out,
And has (C1)fallen into the hole which he made.
16 His (C1)harm will return on his own head,
And his (C2)violence will descend on the top of his own head.
17 I will give thanks to the LORD (C1)according to His righteousness
And will (C2)sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
Luke 8:26-56
Chapter 8
26 (C1)Then they sailed to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.27 And when He stepped out onto the land, a man from the city met Him who was possessed with demons; and he had not put on clothing for a long time and was not living in a house, but among the tombs.28 And seeing Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him, and said with a loud voice, "(F1)(C1)What business do You have with me, Jesus, Son of (C2)the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!"29 For He had already commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had seized him many times; and he was bound with chains and shackles and kept under guard, and yet he would break the restraints and be driven by the demon into the desert.30 And Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "(C1)Legion"; because many demons had entered him.31 And they were begging Him not to command them to go away into (C1)the abyss.
32 Now there was a herd of many pigs feeding there on the mountain; and the demons begged Him to permit them to enter (F1)the pigs. And He gave them permission.33 And the demons came out of the man and entered the pigs; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into (C1)the lake and was drowned.
34 Now when the herdsmen saw what had happened, they ran away and reported everything in the city, and in the country.35 And the people came out to see what had happened; and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting down (C1)at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they became frightened.36 Those who had seen everything reported to them how the man who had been (C1)demon-possessed had been (F1)made well.37 And all the (F1)people of the territory of the Gerasenes and the surrounding region asked Him to leave them, because they were overwhelmed by great fear; and He got into a boat and returned.38 (C1)But the man from whom the demons had gone out was begging Him that he might (F1)accompany Him; but Jesus sent him away, saying,39 "Return to your home and describe what great things God has done for you." So he went away, proclaiming throughout the city what great things Jesus had done for him.
Miracles of Healing
40 (C1)And as Jesus was returning, the (F1)people welcomed Him, for they had all been waiting for Him.41 (C1)And a man named Jairus came, and he was an (F1)(C2)official of the synagogue; and he fell at Jesus' feet, and began urging Him to come to his house;42 for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. But as He went, the crowds were pressing against Him.
43 And a woman who had suffered a chronic flow of blood for twelve years, and could not be healed by anyone,44 came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His (F1)cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.45 And Jesus said, "Who is the one who touched Me?" And while they were all denying it, Peter said, "(C1)Master, the (F1)people are crowding and pressing in on You."46 But Jesus said, "Someone did touch Me, for I was aware that (C1)power had left Me."47 Now when the woman saw that she had not escaped notice, she came trembling and fell down before Him, and admitted in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched Him, and how she had been immediately healed.48 And He said to her, "Daughter, (C1)your faith has (F1)made you well; (C2)go in peace."
49 While He was still speaking, someone (*)came from the house of (C1)the synagogue official, saying, "Your daughter has died; do not trouble the Teacher anymore."50 But when Jesus heard this, He responded to him, "(C1)Do not be afraid any longer; only believe, and she will be (F1)made well."51 When He came to the house, He did not allow anyone to enter with Him except Peter, John, and James, and the girl's father and mother.52 Now they were all weeping and (C1)mourning for her; but He said, "Stop weeping, for she has not died, but (C2)is asleep."53 And they began laughing at Him, knowing that she had died.54 He, however, took her by the hand and spoke (F1)forcefully, saying, "Child, arise!"55 And her spirit returned, and she got up immediately; and He ordered that something be given her to eat.56 Her parents were amazed; but He (C1)instructed them to tell no one what had happened.
