I'm not an actress who can create a character. I play me.

Creating a character on or off the stage is an escape.

The fact of the matter is that most actors are shy people.

And a lesson in this movie is dig beneath the surface. And so with my words, with my character, I purposely created a character that was away from how you've known me thus far in my career.

My character Esteban is a guy who really didn't think he was gonna be there at this point in his life. He's in his early 30s. He's got a son. He's raising his son as a single father.

Plot and character are virtually the same thing.

The characters can't be wittier than people are in real life. They have to be character witty.

The ordinary acts we practice every day at home are of more importance to the soul than their simplicity might suggest.

I gradually work myself into a frenzy as the shoot approaches, while we're choosing the costumes or working with the make-up artist. I'm not so much interested in my character as the film itself.

We had a script that was really solid and we knew how we were going to shoot and how the energy of it was going to go. So it gave us a lot of freedom to use the camera as a character.

I didn't need clothes. I was allowed the opportunity to act out moments you don't get the opportunity to experience in your own life, let alone as a character in a film. I didn't feel naked.

To give a character life in a short space of time, it helps if you arrive on screen with a past.

Part of what we love about poetry is the fact that it seems ancient, that it has an authority of ancient language and ancient form, and that it's timeless, that it reaches back.

The Black Mountain poet I like most is the early Creeley. Those early poems seem very lyrical and very traditional, with a lot of voice and character.

The fact that something is in a rhymed form or in blank verse will not make it good poetry.

So now I don't have time to practice drums. It's been five years since I've touched the drums.

Money is not our primary aim. Changing the behavior and the practice of the gun industry is.

With honesty of purpose, balance, a respect for tradition, courage, and, above all, a philosophy of life, any young person who embraces the historical profession will find it rich in rewards and durable in satisfaction.

No man can climb out beyond the limitations of his own character.
