אֲגַם subst. [absol. Isaiah 35:7 cst. אֲגַם 41:18 ], pl. אֲגַמִּים, אַגְמֵי.
(1) a pool, a marsh, so called from the corrupt water, Isaiah 35:7, 42:15 Psalms 107:35. Specially used of the pools of stagnant water left on the shores of the Nile after its inundation, Exodus 7:19, 8:1.
(2) [“i.q. אַגְמוֹן a reed, a cane.” Ges. add. omitting the following explanation], a marsh over-grown with reeds, a reedy place, Jeremiah 51:32. R. Jonah explains it strongholds; comp. أَجَمَةُ a lion’s den in a marsh; hence refuge, stronghold.
