רֶ֫צֶף proper name, of a location conquered by Assyr. (Assyrian Raƒappa, COT^{2 Kings 19:12} Schr^{KGF 167} Dl^{Pa 297}; probably = Ρ̓ησάφα Ptol^{see 18}); — 2 Kings 19:12 = Isaiah 37:12, Ραφε(ι)ς, Ραφεθ; modern Ruƒâfa, between Palmyra and the Euphrates Dl^l.c. Peters^{Nippur i. 105}.

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

רֶצֶף m.

(1) a stone on a hearth, on which meat was roasted or bread baked. 1 Kings 19:6, עֻגַּת רְצָפִים “a cake cooked upon the stones.” The Rabbins understand hot coal, compare רֶשֶׁף.

(2) [Rezeph], pr. name of a city subdued by the Assyrians, Isaiah 37:12 perhaps Ῥησάφα of Ptolemy (page 350, ed. Basil), situated in Palmyrene; Arabic رُصَافَةُ.
