Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition
קִנָּמוֹן const. קִנְמָן־ Exodus 30:23 cinnamon, Greek κίνναμον, κιννάμωμον, according to Herodotus iii. 111, a word of Phœnician origin, Proverbs 7:17; Song of Solomon 4:14. (The origin is doubtful. It seems, however, most simple to suppose a root, קָנָה, whence קִנָּם = קָנָה calamus, קִנָּמוֹן reed-like. [This derivation is expressly rejected in Thes.] Others take it otherwise.)
