 II. [קָטַר] verb dubious word; si vera lectio apparently = shut in, enclose (ᵑ7קְטַר Syriac bind, chain); —

Qal Passive participle plural חֲצֵדוֺתקְטֻרוֺת Ezekiel 46:22 enclosed courts (compare interpretation in Levy NHWB, and PS3589), but read probably קְטַגּוֺת small, ᵐ5ᵑ6 Co Toy Berthol Krae.

קטר (√ of following; ᵑ7קְטַר, Syriac bind, whence קִטְרָא, knot, etc.; compare Biblical Hebrew II. [קטר]).

קָטַר not used in Kal; Arab. قتر to give ascent, to be fragrant. Kindred עָטַר.

Piel קִטֵּר to offer odours, to burn incense in honour of a deity; followed לְ of the deity, the acc. of the incense being omitted, Jeremiah 1:16, 7:9 11:13 19:4 always [almost] used of idolatrous worship [see on the other hand, 1 Samuel 2:16, inf.] Part. f. מְקַטְּרוֹת altars on which incense was burned; prop. giving an odour, 2 Chronicles 30:14.

Pual, part. מְקֻטֶּרֶת incense, Song of Solomon 3:6.

Hiphil, to burn incense, used of sacrifices both lawful, 1 Chronicles 6:34, and unlawful, 1 Kings 3:3 followed by לְ of the deity, 1 Kings 11:8 often also followed by an acc. of the incense or victim burned, Exodus 29:18; Leviticus 1:9, 17 2:2, 16.

Hophal הָקְטַר pass. Leviticus 6:15. Part. Hoph. מֻקְטָר incense, Malachi 1:11.

Derivatives, קְטוֹרָה, קְטֹרֶת [קִטֵּר], קִיטֹר, מִקְטָר, מִקְטֶרֶת, and pr.n. קְטוּרָה.
