IV. עצה (√ of following; Lag BN 157 compare a land abounding with the trees called ).
עָצֶה m. Leviticus 3:9, the back bone (according to Onk., Arab. Erp.), or, as is preferred by Bochart, in Hieroz. i. p. 497, os coccygis, Arab. عُصْعُصُ, either of which would be so called from hardness and firmness, see the root. Arab. عَصًا is the thigh bone, pl. the bones of the wings of birds.
I. עֵצָה f. of the noun עֵץ collect. wood, i.q. עֵצִים, used of materials [for building], Jeremiah 6:6 of odoriferous woods (עֲצַת נֶפֶשׁ), Proverbs 27:9.
II. עֵצָה constr. עֲצַת (from the root יַעַץ to counsel, for יְעֵצָה), f.
(1) counsel
(a) which any one gives or receives, 2 Samuel 16:20; 1 Kings 1:12; Psalms 119:24, אַנְשֵׁי עֲצָתִי “my counsellors.” Used of predictions, Isaiah 44:26, compare 41:28 (root No. 4).
(2) counsel which any one forms, Isaiah 19:3; Hosea 10:6. עָשָׂה עֵצָה to execute a plan or counsel, Isaiah 30:1. Especially used of the counsel or purpose of God, Job 38:2; Isaiah 14:26, 46:11, אִישׁ עֲצָתִי “man of my counsel,” whom I use as an instrument to execute my purpose.
(3) counsel, as the faculty of forming plans, i.e. prudence, wisdom, especially that of God, Isaiah 11:2; Proverbs 8:14, 21:30 Jeremiah 32:19, גְּדֹל הָעֵצָה “of great wisdom;” 1 Chronicles 12:19, בְּעֵצָה “having taken counsel,” having consulted. Plur. עֵצֹות once with suff. עֲצָתַיִךְ Isaiah 47:13, counsels, Deuteronomy 32:28 cares, Psalms 13:3.
