 [עָגַן] verb Niph`al shut oneself in or off (Late Hebrew id., Passive participle restrained (especially from marriage), also עוֺגִין anchor; ᵑ7עֲגַן be imprisoned); — Imperfect 2 feminine plural תֵּעָגֵ֫נָה לְבִלְתִּי הֱיוֺת לְאִישׁ Ruth 1:13 would ye shut yourselves off, so as not to belong to a man ?

עגר (√ of following, meaning dubious; conjectures in Meier Wurzel WB 38 Lag BN 59; on Greek ἀγορ compare Lewy Fremdw. 8).

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

עָגַן only in Niph. according to the Ch. use, to be shut up, to remain shut up. Ruth 1:13, הֲלָהֵן תֵּעָנֵנָה “would ye therefore shut yourselves up?” for תֵּעָגֵנָּה, compare Isaiah 60:4. LXX. κατασχεθήσεσθε. According to Kimchi עגונה is a woman who remains at home, and lives without a husband.
