Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

נִיחֹחַ m. prop. acquiescence (from the root נוּחַ. like the Arab. دَيْمُومَةُ from the root دَامَ, بَيْنُو ذَةُ from the root نان, De Sacy Gramm. Arab., i. p. 561), i.e. satisfaction, delight (as in Lat. acquiescere in aliqua re used for delectari. Syriac ܐܶܬܬܢܺܝܚ ܒ to be delighted with any thing, Barhebr., page 221; ܢܝ݀݀ܚܙ delight, ibid. page 38; Talmud. ניחא לך does it please thee?) Always in this phrase, רֵיהַ נִיחֹחַ an odour of satisfaction, i.e. sweet, agreeable. Genesis 8:21, וַיָּרַח יְהֹוָה אֶת־רֵיחַ הַנִּיחֹחַ “and the Lord smelled a sweet savour;” as if τὴν κνίσσην. Levit. 2:12 26:31 Numbers 15:3; Ezekiel 6:13, 20:28, 41 Ezekiel 20:41. In the Mosaic precepts concerning sacrifice, there is very frequently added, רֵיחַ נִיחֹחַ לַיהוָֹה a sweet odour to Jehovah; Leviticus 1:9, 13, 17 2:2, 3:5 6:14 Numbers 15:7, seq.; 28:8 and לְרֵיחַ נִיחֹחַ אִשֶּׁה לַיהוָֹה Numbers 28:6, 13 Numbers 28:13, 29:6, etc. Hence has sprung the Chaldee word
