Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

נָבָל fem. נְבָלָה adj.

(1)  stupid, foolish, Proverbs 17:7, 21 Proverbs 17:21; Jeremiah 17:11. More often

(2) impious, abandoned, wicked (comp. אֱוִיל), 1 Samuel 25:25; 2 Samuel 3:33 specially impious, ungodly. Job 2:10; Psalms 14:1, 53:2, אָמַר נָבָל בְּלִבּוֹ אֵין אֱלֹהִים “the fool saith in his heart, there is no God.” The Arabs use with the same extent of signification the word كافر.
