Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

מָקַק not used in Kal, to melt, to pine away, like the cogn. מָכַךְ, מוּךְ, מוּג, which see. In western stocks to this there appear to answer maceo, macer.

Niphal נָמַק.

(1) to melt, Isaiah 34:4, הַשָּׁמַיִם נָמַקּוּ כָּל צְבָא־ “all the stars of heaven shall melt,” i.e. shall fall melted, here compared by the poet to wax candles, as this image is well explained by Vitringa. [Most will regard this explanation as very strange.] Hence to flow, to run, Psalms 38:6, נָמַקּוּ חֲבוּרֹתָי “my turnours run with corrupt matter.”

(2) to pine, to pine away, of the eyes and tongue, Zechariah 14:12 of persons, Leviticus 26:39; Ezekiel 24:23, 33:10.

Hiphil חֵמֵק causat. to cause to pine away, Zechariah 14:12.

Derivative, מַק.
