Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

כָּשַׁף unused in Kal. Syr. Ethpael, to pray, to offer prayers or worship, e.g. Acts 4:32, 13:1 (for Gr. λειτουργεῖν), Php_1:4 (for Gr. δέησιν ποιεῖν). Like many Syriac words relating to worship (e.g. כְּמָרִים, בַּעַל, סָנַד, קָסַם, which see); this also in Hebrew is restricted to the worship of idols, and means

Piel כִּשֵּׁף to use enchantment (pr. to use magical songs, to mutter), 2 Chronicles 33:6. Part. מְכַשֵּׁף, an enchanter, a magician, Exodus 7:11; Deuteronomy 18:10; Daniel 2:2; Malachi 3:5. Fem. מְכַשֵּׁפָה Exodus 22:17. LXX. φαρμακός, φαρμακεύεσθαι. Vulg. maleficus, maleficis artibus inservire.

Hence pr.n. אַכְשָׁף, and the words which immediately follow.
