אַיָּלוֹן (from אַיָּל, “of” or “belonging to a stag”), [Ajalon, Aijalon], pr.n. of a place, so called from abounding in stags, like the Germ. Hirfchau, Hirfchfeld. This was the name
(1) of a town of the Levites, in the tribe of Dan, Joshua 10:12, 19:42 21:24 Judges 1:35. [See Robinson, iii. 63.]
(2) a town in the tribe of Zebulon, Judges 12:12.
