כְּבָר pr. subst. length of space, continuance of time (see the root, No. 2). Hence
(1) [Chebar], pr.n. of a river in Mesopotamia, also called חָבוֹר (which see), Greek and Latin Chaboras. Ezekiel 1:3, 3:15, 23 Ezekiel 3:23, 10:15, 22 Ezekiel 10:22. This orthography of this name accords with the Syriac (ܟܒܰܪ, ܟܰܒܽܘܪ), while on the other hand חָבוֹר (خابور) agrees with the Arabic. Although each form affords a suitable etymology (חָבוֹר joining together, and כְּבָר length, a long, great river), yet I should regard the Aramean mode of spelling the name of a river in Mesopotamia, as the genuine and original.
(2) adv. already, long ago, formerly, now (längft). Ecclesiastes 1:10, 3:15 4:2 9:6,. (Syr. ܟܒܰܪ long ago, already).
