חִוִּי (perh. “belonging to a village,” from חִוָּה =חַוָּה No. 2). A Gentile noun, a Hivite, generally used collectively, the Hivites (LXX. Εὐαῖος), a Canaanitish nation dwelling at the foot of Hermon and Antilibanus (Joshua 11:3; Judges 3:3 ), but also in various other places, as for instance at Gibeon (Genesis 34:2; 2 Samuel 24:7; 1 Kings 9:20; Joshua 11:19).
