גְּזֵרָה f. once found Leviticus 16:22, אֶל־אֶרֶץ גְּזֵרָה “into a desert land.” The same thing is expressed in verses 10 Leviticus 16:10, 21 Leviticus 16:21, and 22 Leviticus 16:22, fin. הַמִּדְבָּרָה. LXX. εἰς γῆν ἄβατον. Vulg. in terram solitariam. It properly denotes, land eaten off, naked, devoid of herbage, from the signification of eating (see the root No. 3); like the Arabic جُرْزُ, جَرْزُ see Kamûs, p. 699, Syriac ܡܰܓܙܳܪܳܐ barren.
גְּזֵרָה const. גְּזֵרַת Ch. f. decree, sentence of God, of angels [?], Daniel 4:14, 21. Frequently in Targ. Comp. the root No. 4, and Syr. ܓܙܝܺܪܬܐܳ.
