This word is made up of two words "sun" (together with) and psuchos(soul, self, inner life, or the seat of the feelings, desires,affections). So the word refers to being united in spirit orharmonious (A&G). Paul desired the Philippians to be united intheir affections - one in Christ in all desires! Used only herein the NT. - Wayne Steury

Vocabulary of the Greek NT

This expressive Pauline compd. (Philippians 2:25, Philemon 1:2) is found in a soldier’s letter to his mother, where he mentions that he has borrowed money from a fellow-soldier, BGU III. 814.27 (iii/A.D.) κέχρημαι χαλκὸν π [α ]ρὰ συστρατιώτου : cf. Ostr 1535.4 (ii/B.C.) τοῖς συνστρατιώταις αὐτοῦ, P Meyer 20.14 (1st half iii/A.D.) ἔπεμσα διὰ Διοσκόρ [ο ]υ συνστρατιώτου Διοπολείτου, and the Christian P Grenf I. 53.6 (iv/A.D.) ἔπεμψά σοι διὰ Ἄπωνος τοῦ συνσρατιώτου σοι γράμματα καὶ μάφορτιν (";a head-dress";). In Menandrea p. 120.71 συ ]στρατ ̣[ιώτας is a probable supplement. For the verb see P Frankf 7 i. 2 (after B.C. 218–7).
