Fr. 281p.351U.; παρεισελθόντες ὡς φίλιοι Plb. 1.7.3, al.; νόμος παρεισῆλθεν ἵνα πλεονάσῃ τὸ παράπτωμα Romans 5:20; π. ἄφνω πρὸς τὴν ἑστίαν Plu. Cor. 23; to be introduced, of a side-issue, Gal. 8.749: c. inf., π. κατασκοπῆσαι Galatians 2:4.

παρεισέρχομαι: 2 aorist παρεισῆλθον;

1. to come in secretly or by stealth (cf. παρά, IV. 1), to creep or steal in (Vulg. subintroeo): Galatians 2:4 (Polybius 1, 7, 3; 1, 8, 4; (especially) 2, 55, 3; Philo de opif. mund. § 52; de Abrah. § 19, etc.; Plutarch, Poplic. 17; Clement, homil. 2, 23).

2. to enter in addition, come in besides (Vulg. subintro): Romans 5:20, cf. 12.

With the use of this verb in 1 Timothy 5:18 we may compare P Oxy VII. 1033.12 (A.D. 392) μόνοι περιερχόμενοι τὴν πόλιν καὶ κατοπτεύοντες, ";going about the city alone and keeping watch."; The verb occurs in connexion with an inheritance in PSI V. 452.8 (iv/A.D.) ἀνδράπ [οδ ]α περιῆλθεν εἰς ἡμᾶς : cf. BGU IV. 1074.5 (A.D. 275) ἡσθῆναι ἐπὶ τῷ εἰς ἐμὲ περιεληλυθέναι τὴν τῶν ὅλων κηδεμονίαν. Vett. Val. p. 40.28 ποικίλως τὸν βίον περιερχομένους.
