Ion. παραπλευρ-πλώω Orph. A. 733, 1271: aor. 2 παρέπλων (v. infr.):

sail by or past, abs., οἴη δὴ κείνῃ γε παρέπλω.. Ἀργώ was the only ship that sailed through that way, Od. 12.69, cf. X. An. 5.1.11; ἐν χρῷ παραπλέοντες sailing close in, Th. 2.84, cf. 90; π. παρὰ τὰς πρῴρας τῶν νεῶν Hdt. 7.100; π. τὴν Ἔφεσον sail past Ephesus, Acts 20:16.

2. coast by or along, ὃς τῆς Ἀττικῆς ταῦτα μὴ -πέπλωκε Hdt. 4.99, cf. Isoc. 15.123; ἐς Σικυῶνα Th. 1.111; ἐνθένδε μὲν εἰς Σινώπην π., ἐκ Σινώπης δὲ εἰς Ἡράκλειαν X. An. 5.6.10, cf. D. 35.31; ἐκεῖθεν X. HG 5.4.61; π. ἀπὸ κάλω, v. κάλως.

3. metaph., π. τὰς συμφοράς sail past, escape them, Amphis 3.4.

";mourn."; The conjunction of πενθέω and κλαίω, as in Mark 16:10 al., is found in a very illiterate letter addressed by a man to his wife, P Oxy III. 528.9 (ii/A.D.) γινόσκειν σε θέλω ἀφ᾽ ὡς ἐ íκ ýξῆλθες ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ πένθος ἡγούμην νυκτὸς κλέ (= αί)ων, ήμέρας δὲ πενθω ̣<ν >, ";I wish you to know that ever since you left me I have been in mourning, weeping by night and mourning by day."; See also P Par 22.24 (B.C. 163) (= UPZ i. p. 193) ἐπιγενηθέντος δὲ τοῦ πένθους τοῦ Ἄπιος κατάγουσιν ἡμᾶς πενθεῖν τῶι θεῶι. In Syll 879 (= .3 1219).5 (iii/B.C.) it is laid down τἀς πενθούσας ἔχειν φαιὰν ἐσθῆτα μὴ κατερρυπωμένην, ";that the mourning women should wear dark raiment, not soiled.";
