παραλέγομαι; (παρελεγομην); (παρά beside, and λέγω to lay); Vulg. in Acts 27:8lego, i. e. to sail past, coast along: τήν Κρήτην, Acts 27:8 (here some, referring αὐτήν, to Σαλμώνην, render work past, weather), 13 (τήν Ἰταλίαν, Diodorus 13, 3; γῆν, 14, 55; (Strabo); Latinlegere oram).

";persuasive."; For the spelling of this adj. (WH πιθός), which hitherto has not been found elsewhere than in 1 Corinthians 2:4, cf. Moulton Gr. ii. p. 78, where the word is treated ";as a new adj. straight from the verb-stem."; See also Winer-Schmiedel, p. 135 n..20, and Field Notes, p. 167.

For the subst., which is read in certain inferior authorities in 1 Corinthians 2:4, see P Oxy III. 474.37 (A.D. 184?) ἀβουλίᾳ μᾶλλον ἢ πειθοῖ τῶν παρηγγελμένων χρωμένοις, ";in defiance rather than obedience to the proclamations"; (Edd.) : cf. P Arnh II. 31.11 (B.C. 112) πειθανάγκης προσαχθείσης περὶ τοῦ καθήκοντος προστίμου, ";forcible persuasion being employed with regard to the proper fine"; (Edd.).
