I strong drink, καλῶς ἔχειν μέθης to be pretty well drunk, Hdt. 5.20; ὑπερπλησθεὶς μέθης S. OT 779; μέθῃ βρεχθείς E. El. 326; ἡ ἀπειρία τῆς μ. Antipho 4.3.2; ἐσφαλμένος ὑπὸ μέθης Pl. R. 396d; μανδραγόρᾳ ἢ μέθῃ συμποδίσαι τινά ib. 488c; μ. εὐώδης παλαιός fragrant old wine, Hp. Epid. 7.82.

";drunkenness,"; is found in the plur., as in Romans 13:13, Galatians 5:21, in the invitation to the celebration of Hadrian’s accession P Giss I. 3.8 (A.D. 117) (= Chrest. I. p. 571) γέλωσι καὶ μέθαις ταῖς ἀπὸ κρήνης τὰς ψυχὰς ἀνέντες. See also Vett. Val. p. 90.13 εἰς ἡδονὰς καὶ μέθας ἀναλίσκουσι τὰ περικτηθέντα, and cf. Poimandres § 27 (ed.
