ματαιολογία, ";vain speaking,"; ";empty argument"; (Vg vaniloquium), belongs to the higher Κοινή, and is found ter in Vett. Valens, e.g. p. 257.23 διὰ τὴν φιλονεικίαν διασαφήσω ἐκκόψας τὰς ματαιολογίας : cf. Poimandres 14.4 (ed. Parthey) διὸ τῆς πολυλογίας τε καὶ ματαιολογίας ἀπαλλαγέντας χρὴ νοεῖν κτλ.
