poet. κεῖθεν (the only form used by Hom., also in Trag. where metre requires): Aeol. κήνοθεν Alc. 86: Dor. τηνῶθεν Ar. Ach. 754; τηνῶθε Theoc. 3.10:

I Adv.

1. from that place, thence, opp. ἐκεῖσε, S. Ph. 490, etc.; of a person, τἀκεῖθεν εἰ ποθούμεθα on his part, Id. Tr. 632; ὁ ἐ. ἄγγελος Pl. R. 619b; τὸ σκῆπτρον ἐ. παραλαβόντες Jul. Or. 6.181b.

2. = ἐκεῖ, οἱ ἐ. Th. 1.62: c. gen., τοὐκεῖθεν ἄλσους on yon side of the grove, S. OC 505; ἕζοντο τὸ κεῖθεν E. Or. 1411 (lyr.).

3. by attraction for ἐκεῖσε, βῆναι κεῖθεν ὅθενπερ ἥκει S. OC 1227 codd. (lyr.).

II thence, from that fact, γνοίη δ' ἄν τις ἐ. Isoc. 12.224, cf. D. 45.48, etc.

III of Time, thenceforward, Il. 15.234; ἐ. ἤδη D.C. 54.25.

ἐκεῖθεν, adverb of place, thence, from that place (A. V. sometimes from thence): Matthew 4:21; Mark 6:1; Luke 9:4; John 4:43; Acts 13:4; and often in the historical books of the N. T. οἱ ἐκεῖθεν elliptically for οἱ ἐκεῖθεν, διαβῆναι, θέλοντες, Luke 16:26 (where L WH omit οἱ).
