Vocabulary of the Greek NT

This ἅπ .εἰρ . of Acts 27:7, cited by Grimm only from Artemidorus (ii/A.D.), is the subject of a note by W. Montgomery in Exp VIII. ix. p. 357. He suggests that it is a technical term, ";to slow-sail,"; meaning to work to windward by tacking. Though found earliest in the ";We-document,"; it is quite certainly no coinage of the author. In Artemidorus it is not technical, but only denotes a slow voyage.
