Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

פָּטַר fut. A (signif. 3)

(1)  to split, to cleave (Arab. فطر id.; and intrans. to break through, as a tooth. Kindred to the root בָּתַר; where see more). Part. pass. פְּטוּרֵי צִצִּים burstings of flowers, i.e. flowers expanded which have already budded forth, 1 Kings 6:18, 29 1 Kings 6:29, 32 1 Kings 6:32, 35 1 Kings 6:35 [פָּטוּר is given as a subst. in Thes.].

(2) transit. to cause to burst forth, as water, Proverbs 17:14. Hence

(3) trop. to let go free (like the Chald), 2 Chronicles 23:8. 1 Chronicles 9:33, פְּטוּרִים “let go,” i.e. exempt from duty; where the כתיב is פְּטִירִים. Intrans. to slip away, to depart out of the way; fut. יִפְטַר 1 Samuel 19:10 (Syr. ܦܛܰܪ id. Chald. Pe. and Ithpe.).

Hiphil, i.q. Kal No. 1 חִפְטִיר בְּשָׂפָה to cleave the lip, i.e. to open the mouth wide, as in scorn, Psalms 22:8 (compare Psalms 35:21; Job 16:10).
