נָטַר fut. יִטֹּר and יִנְטוֹר Jeremiah 3:5 to guard, i.q. שָׁמַר; but mostly poet. (Syr. Chald. and Arab. نطر id. Kindred is נָצַר) e.g. to guard a vineyard, Song of Solomon 1:6, 8:11, 12.
(2) Specially to keep, sc. anger, which is understood, Psal. 103:9, לֹא לְעוֹלָם יִטּוֹר “he will not keep (his anger) for ever,” Jerem. 3:5, 12 followed by לְ of pers., Nahum 1:2 אֵת Leviticus 19:18 compare שָׁמַר Jeremiah 3:5; Job 10:14.
(3) i.q. Arab. نظر to keep watch (an idea derived from guarding); hence מַטָּרָה.
