 תִּפְסַח proper name, of a location on Euphrates (probably ford (though Lag BN 131doubts); Lewy Fremdw. 146 compare Αάμψακος (on Bosphorus), explanation as לַמֶּסַח); — 1 Kings 5:4, northeast limit of Solomon's dominion; = Gk Θάψακος Xen Anab. i. 4etc.; identification with Kal' at Dibse, at the great easterly bend of the river, approximately Latitude 35° 55' north, Longitude 38° 20' east, JPPeters Nation, May 23,1889: Nippur i.96 ff.

תִּפְסַח (“passage,” “crossing,” from the root פָּסַח), [Tiphsah], pr.n. Thapsacus, a large and opulent city on the western bank of the Euphrates, situated at the bridge by which the Euphrates was usually crossed (see Xenoph. Anab. i. 4; Arrian, Exped. Alex. ii. 13; iii. 7; Strabo, xvi. p. 1082); 1 Kings 5:4 nor is any other Thapsacus to be understood, 2 Kings 15:16.
