 [שָׁפַר] verb be beautiful, fair, comely (Arabic remove veil (of women), shine; Aramaic שְׁפַר be pleasing (see Daniel 6:2), be beautiful, bright, pleasing, beautiful); —

Qal Perfect 3 feminine singular שָֽׁפְרָה עָלָ֑י (Aramaic) Psalm 16:6 (the) heritage is beautiful for (pleasing to) me (see עַל II:8).

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

שָׁפַר

(1) i.q. شفر to scratch, to scrape (cognate to צָפַר, סָפַר); hence to polish.

(2) to be bright, prop. to be polished (compare Arab. سفر I. IV., to shine forth as the dawn, and שְׁפַרְפָּרָא), to be beautiful, i.q. Ch. and Syr. Followed by עַל to please any one, Psalms 16:6, compare Daniel 4:24. The notion of being bright is also applied to brilliancy of sound (compare, on the other hand, הָלַל); whence שׁוֹפָר trumpet.

(3) i.q. Ethiop. safara, to measure; whence אֶשְׁפָּר a measure; which see. (Cogn. is סָפַר No. 3, to number.) As to the passage, Job 26:13, see שִׁפְרָה.
