צֹעַן [Zoan], pr.n. Tanis, an ancient city of lower Egypt, situated on the east of the Tanitic branch of the Nile: in Egypt. called ϫⲁⲛⲏ and ϫⲁⲛⲓ (i.e. low region), whence have sprung both the Hebrew and the Greek forms of the name, also the Arab. طن. See my Comment. on Isaiah 19:11.- Numbers 13:22; Isaiah 19:11, 13 Isaiah 19:13, 30:4 Ezekiel 30:14.
