1) a mountain peak in Moab belonging to the Abarim range and near Pisgah (noun proper locative)
2) a false god worshipped in Moab; corresponds to Baal (noun proper deity)
פְּעוֹר (“hiatus”), [Peor], pr.n. of a mountain, Numbers 23:28. Hence בַּעַל פְּעוֹר Numbers 25:3, Numbers 25:5 and simply פְּעוֹר Numbers 23:28, 31:16 Joshua 22:17, an idol of the Moabites, in whose worship women prostituted themselves. Compare בֵּית פְּעוֹר.
