אָסָא proper name, masculine (perhaps healer) king of Judah, son of Abijam and father of Jehoshaphat 1 Kings 15:8,9,11 24t. 1 Kings 15..16.22; 1 Chronicles 3:10; 1 Chronicles 9:16; 2 Chronicles 13:23 28t. 14-21; Jeremiah 41:9. ** Perhaps apocopatic theophoric name, compare רְפָאֵל.

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

אָסָא pr.n. (“harming,” or, as I prefer, “physician”) borne by

(1) [Asa], a king of Judah, the son of Abijah, grandson of Rehoboam, who died after a reign of forty-one years, B.C. 914. -1 Ki. 15:924 ; -2 Ch. 1416.

(2) 1 Chronicles 9:16.
