Schr COT Genesis 10:2; KGF 155 ff.; compare Sabean משך Hal243); — 'son' of Japheth Genesis 10:2 (P), between תֻּבָל and תִּירָס, = 1 Chronicles 1:5; also, מֶ֑שֶׁךְ, probably error, 1 Chronicles 1:17 (see מַשׁ); מֶ֑שֶׁךְ Psalm 120:5 ("" קֵדָר; here without תֻּבָל); ׳תּוּבַל וּמ Ezekiel 27:13; compare Ezekiel 32:26; Ezekiel 38:2 (both + תֻּבָל); so also ᵐ5 Isaiah 66:19 (Lo Sta Javan 8 Du Che Hpt; see above מָשַׁךְ 2); וְתֻבָ֑ל׳גּוֺג נְשִׂיא ראֹשׁ מ Ezekiel 38:3; Ezekiel 39:1. ᵐ5 Μοσοχ (Μεσοχ), Samaritan מושׁ(י)ך. — On identification compare Boch.; in Assyrian times they dwelt in west (or northwest) Armenia (compare Schr l.c.); in Persian times apparently farther northeast (southeast of Euxine Sea), compare Μοσχοι καὶ Τιβαρηνοι Herod iii. 94; vii. 78; also Di Genesis 10:2 and Che Encycl. מֶשֶׁךְ

(1)  a drawing out, Psalms 126:6, מֶשֶׁךְ הַזֶּרַע “the drawing out of seed,” i.e. its being scattered along the furrows (compare Amos 9:13).

(2) possession, from the signification of holding, Job 28:18.

(3) [Meshech], pr.n. Moschi, a barbarous people inhabiting the Moschian mountains, between Iberia, Armenia, and Colchis, Psalms 120:5, almost always joined with the neighbouring Tibareni (תֻּבַל, תּוּבַל), Genesis 10:2; Ezekiel 27:13, 32:26 38:2, Ezekiel 38:3, 39:1 just as in Herodotus (iii. 94; vii. 78), Μόσχοι καὶ Τιβαρηνοί. A pronunciation more near to the Greek form is found in the Samaritan copy (Eph 1:1-23 Act 8:1-40 Act 4:1-37); LXX. Μοσόχ; Vulg. Mosoch.
