אֱלִישָׁע pr.n.m. (for אֱלִייֶשַׁע “to whom God is salvation”), Elisha the prophet, the disciple, companion, and successor of Elijah, famous for many miracles. He flourished in the kingdom of the ten tribes, in the ninth century B. C. 2 Ki. chaps. -213. In N. T. Ἐλισσαῖος, Lu. 4:27.
