1 a Manassite, called 'son' of Gilead Numbers 26:30 (compare Di) Joshua 17:2; Judges 6:34; Judges 8:2; and son of Gilead's sister 1 Chronicles 7:18.

2 a Benjamite, a warrior of David 2 Samuel 23:27; 1 Chronicles 11:28; 1 Chronicles 27:12.

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

אֲבִיעֶזֶר (“father of help,” like the Germ. Adolf, from Atta, father, and Holf, aid), [Abiezer], pr.n.

(1) a son of Gilead, Joshua 17:2, and meton. of his descendants, Judges 6:34, 8:2. The patronymic noun is אֲבִי הָעֶזְרִי [Abiezrite], Judges 6:11, 24 Judges 6:24, 8:32. Hence is the shortened form אִיעֶזֶר, Numbers 26:30, and the patronym. אִיעֶזְרִי ibid.

(2) one of the heroes of David, 2 Samuel 23:27; 1 Chronicles 11:28, 27:12.
