Vorarbeiten iii. 217; on כָּלֵב = dog-clan, see RS K 17,190f., 219,254); — son of יְפֻנֶּה (ᵐ5 Ξαλεβ; compare Lag BN 78), called הַקְּנִזִּי (see קְנַז) in J E, Numbers 32:12; Joshua 14:6,14, compare Joshua 15:17 = Judges 1:13; Judges 3:9 (where קְנַז is brother of ׳כ), also 1 Chronicles 4:15; treated as full Judahite only in P Numbers 13:6 (see GFM Ju p. 30f.) the one of the spies who (with Joshua) reported well of Canaan Numbers 14:6,24,30,38; also Numbers 26:65; Numbers 34:19; Deuteronomy 1:36; Joshua 14:13; Joshua 15:13,14,16,18; Joshua 21:12 (P = 1 Chronicles 6:41) Judges 1:12,14,15,20 ("" with Joshua 15); = clan of Caleb 1 Samuel 30:14 (distinguished from Judah). (1) the companion of Joshua, the son of Jephunneh, Numbers 13:6, 14:6, seq.; Joshua 15:14. Patron. כָּלִבִּי 1 Samuel 25:3.
(2) 1 Chronicles 2:18, 19 1 Chronicles 2:19, for which there is כְּלוּבַי ver. 1 Chronicles 2:9.
(3) 1 Chronicles 2:50.
