יָקְטָן (“small”), [Joktan], pr.n. of one of the descendants of Shem, a son of Heber, Genesis 10:25, 26 Genesis 10:26 to whom many of the tribes of southern Arabia refer their origin. In the Arabian genealogies he is also called قحطان Kahtân. See Bochart, Phaleg. iii. chap. 15; Pococke, Spec. Hist. Arab. page 3, 38; A. Schultens, Histor.
